I have long white areas on both side of soft palate. Sore throat. Candidiasis? I recently had a lichen keratosis.

Maybe, maybe not!: White patches in the mouth and throat can be thrush, or they can be due to strep, or other things, too. Since your throat is sore, get checked to be sure you don't have strep throat, which must be treated with an antibiotic to avoid the chance of severe long term complications. ...Read more

Can candidiasis be the cause of my neck, back and shoulder pain?

Can candidiasis be the cause of my neck, back and shoulder pain?

Probably not: Superficial infections of skin and mucosal membranes by Candida causing local inflammation and discomfort are common. The pain and discomfort would be more related to the skin area, and would be distinguishable from true muscle and joint pain of the "neck, back and shoulder" I assume that you are referring to. If you ant to know the true cause of your issues, see the Dr for an evaluation. ...Read more

Why do alternative health practitioners test for candidiasis while traditional mds don't focus on it as a condition effecting the GI system?

Why do alternative health practitioners test for candidiasis while traditional mds don't focus on it as a condition effecting the GI system?

It makes money: There was a book called "the yeast connection" that blamed a plethetra of ills on yeast colonization and infection. This was pseudo-science and was never proven. It was similar to the pseudo-diagnoses of chronic lyme disease and chronic epstein barr virus infection which have never been shown to exist or cause disease but are still believed by many people fooled by charlatan doctors. ...Read more

HIV 1&2 P24 Combo (CMIA) test on13th day.index value 0.1& non-reactive. symptoms so far-Oral candidiasis from 14th day. How reliable is the test ?

You don't have HIV: This test result is over 80% reliable; almost certainly you do not have HIV. Have another test at 4 weeks to be certain. Do not assume oral candidasis if you just have a white tongue; coated tongue and candidasis are not the same. Anyway, it is too soon to have oral candida due to a new HIV infection, and test results always overrule symptoms. See a doctor if your mouth problem continues. ...Read more

Good morning, For patients who had severe allergic reaction to oral fluconazole for treatment of candidiasis, which treatment would you suggest? Thanks

Good morning, For patients who had severe allergic reaction to oral fluconazole for treatment of candidiasis, which treatment would you suggest? Thanks

It depends...: Potential options are caspofungin and related drugs, nystatin, and amphoteracin B. But this depends a lot on the particular kind of candidiasis: different for superficial or body orifice infections (vaginal, anal, mouth) than for advanced (e.g. bloodstream) infections. If you mean "systemic candidiasis", that's an urban myth, not a real illness and doesn't need treatment. ...Read more
