When I haven't taken my Zoloft (sertraline) in 2 + days (rarely happens that I skip) why does it cause me headaches?

Withdrawal symptom: When you miss your zoloft (sertraline) dose, you could be experiencing some withdrawal (or what the drug companies call "discontinuation") effects -- which can include headache. I'm glad you rarely skip your doses for 2+ days. ...Read more

Difficult to say: You are on the same dose except it is all given once a day.Zoloft is usually prescribed as once a day. Discuss with your Psychiaterist or prescribing doctor if headache persists if you can go back to same regimen and also get checked to see if there is another reason for your constant headache. As it may or may not related to the change in timing to take the drug ...Read more

Take 100 mg of Zoloft. What would be a good medication for tension headaches that won't cause seratonin syndrome?

Take 100 mg of Zoloft. What would be a good medication for tension headaches that won't cause seratonin syndrome?

Serotonin Syndrome: Older antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) can cause SS with the SSRIs (like Zoloft), as well as meperidine (Demerol, a painkiller) or dextromethorphan (cough medicine). Drugs of abuse, such as ecstasy, LSD, cocaine, and amphetamines have also been associated with SS. I know you are asking about pain medications specifically...

Talk to your dr.: Don't do anything without talking to your dr. It can be hard starting a new medication but you need to be able to understand the side effects and the goal of the treatment. It sounds like you need help with this transition. Are you in therapy? Therapy can be very helpful with the problems that you describe. Good luck and best wishes. ...Read more

I've had a headache and dizziness for almost 3 weeks now. Been on Zoloft (sertraline) for over a year. Could it be causing my headache?

Must see your Dr now: Zoloft (sertraline) would be unlikely to be the cause of headaches and dizziness if you've taken it for the past year without a problem. However, Zoloft (sertraline) can uncommonly cause a mineral imbalance causing your serum sodium to fall too low (hyponatremia). This can cause similar symptoms.

Anyone with a headache lasting more than several days should consult with a physician. A headache lasting 3 wks

Consider taper: Most likely symptoms include worsening of anxiety (especially if zoloft had been effective in treating those symptoms). Other general withdrawal symptoms include: dizziness, nausea, stomach cramps, sweating. tingling - sometimes people describe antidepressant withdrawal as feeling like they have the flu. If you experience any of these, do a gradual taper rather than abrupt discontinuation. ...Read more

I'm rxd zoloft (sertraline). I have headaches 6-7 days/week. When I take it as rxd, I get very severe headaches. Isn't there similar meds that won't do this? Ouch.

Be careful: This is a mix of a tricyclic antidepressant and a selective serotonin reputable inhibitor. The most important principle is very cautious introduction and very slow escalation in dose. The potential for qtc prolongation is elevated in this scenario and an ekg might be a precaution in dose adjustments. I would be surprised if you need more than 10 mg, 20 mg or 25 mg of amitriptyline. Talk to your md. ...Read more

Last night was my first night on Zoloft (sertraline) 25 mg. I could not fall asleep last night and kept waking up now I have a headache. What should I do?

SSRI initiation: Antidepressants like Zoloft (sertraline) take 2-4 weeks to see the benefit and some people feel worse before they get better. This is particularly true for pts with panic/ anxiety. But you also have to watch for a bipolar switch esp in a young person. Talk with your prescriber, see if a low dose of Klonopin 0.25-0.5mg might help with initiation problems. If sleep pattern cont to worsen tell them. ...Read more

I have tramadol for headaches, haven't used them in a while. Since then I started 100 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) for anxiety. Having bad aches today. Safe to take tram?

Serotonin syndrome: Combination of tramadol and ssri's (e.g. Zoloft) may cause a reaction known as serotonin syndrome, which may have serious negative health consequences. This is rarely encountered, but only the prescribing doctor can decide if the two are safe to take by the same individual. ...Read more

Find your triggers: Anxiety and depression are closely linked. Some thoughts are triggering the anxiety.Stress and anxiety are part of modern life, but controlling your response to stress can be done. Short (1-2 min) breathing meditations (google it) can stop the mental tail-chasing that we all fall into at times. These exercises stop these mental feedback loops. Having headaches on Zoloft (sertraline) and joint pain. Only been on for 10 days will this subside or time to try something new?

Having headaches on Zoloft (sertraline) and joint pain. Only been on for 10 days will this subside or time to try something new?

That depends...: It depends on whether or not the headaches and/or joint pain are caused by Zoloft (sertraline), (sertraline) or just coincidentally came after starting Zoloft (sertraline). Only by seeing one's prescribing doctor, and getting evaluated there, can one figure out if these symptoms are merely a coincidence, or causally related to Zoloft (sertraline). People not taking Zoloft (sertraline) also get headaches and joint pain, as those are common symptoms among humans. ...Read more

If I go to the e.R for dizziness, headache, and earache if I ask for Zoloft (sertraline) while im there for my anxoeanty can they prescribe it for me while im there?

Anxiety?: If you meant 'anxiety', then zoloft (sertraline) is an antidepressant that is an effective treatment for various causes of anxiety. That being said, you will likely be more satisfied if you make an appointment with your personal physician to obtain your desired prescription. While any physician could prescribe zoloft (sertraline), they may be uncomfortable doing so in the absence of a preexisting relationship with you. ...Read more
