Will I be able to walk normally again after I broke my pelvis?

Will I be able to walk normally again after I broke my pelvis?

Depends on injury: Our ability to recover from pelvic fractures is good but the ability to walk "normally" varies depending on the severity of the injury and the treatment. Many patients will return to walking. Some may have limitations. Most patients have some degree of residual pain that may or may not affect the ability to walk. It would be best to discuss your expectations with your Orthopaedic surgeon. ...Read more

My grandson is in med school. Can he help me walk instead of pt? I broke my pelvis 2 months ago.

My grandson is in med school. Can he help me walk instead of pt? I broke my pelvis 2 months ago.

Where is the break?: Depending on the area of the pelvis that is fractured, different types of rehabilitation may be necessary. If only the pubic rami are involved, then a patient can be weight bearing as tolerated and work on walking and abductor and gluteal strengthening. This does not require formal physical therapy training. If other portions of the pelvis are involved (acetabulum), you probably best seek a formal therapist because you might need to be non-weightbearing until the fracture is stable. ...Read more

How old do you have to be to go to a rehab center and how long to stay for pt after broken pelvis?

How old do you have to be to go to a rehab center and how long to stay for pt after broken pelvis?

See below: Some rehab hospitals have pediatric units but most do not. There is no particular age requirement. With regard to a broken pelvis, the answer to length of stay will depend on the extent of the injury to the pelvis, where the pelvis was fractured, if the person is able to bear weight on the legs as well as many other factors. I would expect at least one week and maybe up to 4 weeks in most cases. ...Read more

Is it safe to do yoga when you have a broken pelvis?

Is it safe to do yoga when you have a broken pelvis?

It depends...: Most pelvis fractures that do not require surgery involve the pubic and ischial rami, which are major structures for muscle attachment. The stretching involved in yoga may pull traction on these muscles, especially the hamstrings, and cause pain. Pelvis fractures take about 6 weeks to heal. If your fracture is olde than that, try some stretches. If they hurt, wait. ...Read more

If I broke pelvis, will I ever be able to walk without a walker again? I am around 90.

If I broke pelvis, will I ever be able to walk without a walker again? I am around 90.

Maybe yes, if lucky: After a fracture of the hip or pelvis, or after a replacement hip, a 90 year-old can go through good rehab and gait training to see if he can walk steadily with just a cane or with nothing at all. Often, the elderly person is less steady, less coordinated, and slower in the reflexes, due to age.. . And that was the reason for the first fall and fracture.. . Which means a walker would be wise! ...Read more

1 week ago I had a baby and it was natural delivery. 6 hours after I experienced very sharp pain in my pelvis and I cannot walk, sit and lay down?

1 week ago I had a baby and it was natural delivery. 6 hours after I experienced very sharp pain in my pelvis and I cannot walk, sit and lay down?

Need clarification: If the sharp pain was 6 hours after your delivery then it was a tonic contraction of uterus, it's when your uterine starts the process of shrinking back to the pre pregnancy size. At the same time the thick inside layer starts sloughing off and you start having the post partum bleeding. How are you doing after a week now? Did you discuss this with you ob? ...Read more

3mo ago hospitalized for broken pelvis, catheter caused uti. Then rehab for a month, another uti. Two more. All 4 treated. First ones in my life. Why?

Maybe UTI, maybe not: Normally, the human urinary system is designed to 1) flow one way (i.e. Out) and 2) completely empty the bladder. The catheter can cause a "back wash" of urine (with bacteria) into the bladder. Now, if the diagnosis is based solely on WBC in the urine, then it may not be a UTI but rather, a pyuria due to irritation of the bladder by the balloon that keeps the catheter in place. ...Read more
