Okay to use vaseline in dry eyes?

NO: Vaseline is a skin product that theoretically should not be used in the eyes. But a number of patients have used it and stated it relieved there dry eyes. I have not seen any side effects on a couple of patients that were regularly using them. But I stopped them & put them on appropriate ophthalmic drops. There are also punctal plugs, and prescription medications other than teardrops & gels. ...Read more

I applied zovirax (acyclovir) cream to my fever sore and vaseline because it was so dried out. I then touched the corner of my eye about an hour or so later.

Probably OK: Your body has immunity to herpes and you had zovirax (acyclovir) cream on your hand. The skin and eye surfaces as well were likely to have been intact. All of these together mean you will almost certainly not have a problem. ...Read more

Many: Allergic reaction to cosmetics and/or incompletely dried nail polish comes to mind. As long as you are exposed to them, the problem will not go away. Consult a dermatologist if changing eye cosmetics does not help. Note that it will likely take a week for you to see any improvement if the cosmetic is the cause. ...Read more

See urologist...: At 21, the described irritation and skin-peeling are most likely related with long tight foreskin. If so, circumcision will provide an adequate long-term care. Of others causes for the described may exist, such as psoriasis or lichen-related skin disorders. Nonetheless, a direct look at the concerned area is essentially needed for reaching right diagnosis. ...Read more

Does applying almond oil, caster oil, vaseline nd cocunut oil makes eyelashes grow if not then how to make eyelashes preety and grow naturally?

Everyone's different: Some people have longer lashes. Others have shorter lashes. There's no "natural" substance to put on the lashes or eyelids to make eyelashes grow more than they would naturally grow by themselves. If a person is wanting to try something, she can ask to try Latisse (bimatoprost) (prescription needed), which is an eyedrop medication to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker, and darker. ...Read more

Is baby oil safe to remove makeup and eye makeup? I have clear skin, but scared of breakouts. How about Vaseline?

Can a child be allergic to petroleum in Vaseline or chapstick because my son broke out in hives and had swelling around his mouth eyes and other area?

Couple things: It's very unusual to be allergic to petrolatum jelly, though it is occlusive and cause itching. Many people are allergic to lip balms of all kinds. But that causes allergic contact dermatitis; e.g. swelling, redness, then peeling over days...usually not "hives", meaning urticaria, that comes and goes over hours. And not in areas not applied (like the eyelids). ...Read more

(3days now) right eye lower lash line near tear duct is swollen a bit. Idk of it's because of the olive oil or castor oil or Vaseline I've been using?

Maybe: What you are describing sounds like an infected lid margin gland (meibomium). Using an occlusive oil or gel can clog the opening of the gland resulting in it backing up and becoming infected. Stop using these thngs on the eyelid. Only use soap and water, or a water based makeup remover. If you have an infection, warm compresses may help it reolve. If no quick resoution, you may need antibioti ...Read more

Used retin A (tretinoin) twice on penis head...skin burned, reddish and sore patches. Applying Vaseline, moisturizer for 3 days. Can I apply Betnovate ointment?

Stop: I have no idea why you want to put Retin A (tretinoin) on your penis head since there is no wrinkle there. If anything, try topical hydrocortisone for a few days to calm the inflammation down (I presume however that Betnovate is a brand of cortisone containing betamethasone. If so, it is ok to use it once a day for 3-4 days but no more). ...Read more

I have nocturnal lagophthamalos. Will I have to treat with a lubricating eye gel indefinitely to help with the moderate dry eye symptoms?

Helpful: If your eyes drift apart at night during sleep, there is considerable corneal drying ; subsequent irritation that results. Sometimes scarring, ulceration, blurriness, or even loss of vision can occur. Intensive lubrication at night with a tear ointment base product works best. Sleep goggles are useful. Seeing an eye md for an evaluation of your eyelids for possible surgical tightening may help. ...Read more

Do over-the-counter eye drops treat Dry eye syndrome or just relief symptoms?, which eye drops do both?

Provide relief: OTC eyedrops supplement what is missing from your natural tears (volume, composition). They are not curative or a treatment of the underlying pathology. There is no actual permanent treatment. Restasis, a prescription drops for dry eyes, eliminates inflammatory causes for low tear flow but it also is not a cure. Dry eyes are chronic with ups and downs depending upon many factors. ...Read more

Is it true that some people always have red eyes due to dry eye sindrome, even if they're being treated for it?

Yes: This is indeed true, but sometimes there is a treatable or reversible cause of the dry eyes such as a medication or supplement causing dryness. An example of such would be frequent use of Sudafed or other stimulant medications for allergies. Allergies themselves can also cause red eyes which would generally be itchy, not dry. Exposure to irritants at home/at work could also cause this. ...Read more
