I had water in my ear so I used ear drops for swimmers ear. Now I can't hear and the drops are stuck in my ear.

Get ear checked.: If your over the counter remedy hasn't fixed the problem, and you have lost your hearing then you definitely need to have a doctor peer inside your ear to make sure that you haven't developed a hole in your ear drum, or gotten a middle ear infection. Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic ear drop if necessary. ...Read more

My son has had swimmers ear for over a month now can't seem to get rid of it not even with ear drops and antibiotic. Any suggestions?

See an ENT: If the ear hasn't been cleaned of debris it should be. He may need an "ear wick"- a sponge that sits in the ear canal to keep the drops working longer. Also he should be checked to make sure there isn't a yeast infection in the ear from long-term antibiotic drops. Finally make sure you're keeping the ear dry until he's fully healed. ...Read more

I tried swimmers ear drops? Where do I get them?

Alcohol and vinegar: Alcohol and vinegar in equal parts is the classic recipe from lakeside summer camps. The alcohol disinfects the ear, displaces the water, and evaporates quickly at body temperature. The vinegar restores the normal acidic pH of the skin and prevent fungal growth. Do not use any over the counter drops if you may have a perforated eardrum or a tube in the ear. ...Read more

I had swimmers ear today and put in some over-the-counter ear drops which caused me a lot of pain. It won't go away, what should I do?

Swimmers ear: Certainly don't use the drops again. Take some ibuprofen, put some mild heat on your ear. I feel you can try and prevent swimmers ear with OTC droops but treatment takes prescription drops. This outer ear infection can get quite severe and sometimes even needs oral antibiotics. If your ear is red, you have fevers or the pain is unbearable go to an urgent care or even the ER. ...Read more

Swimmer's ear: Is a result of inflammation of the outer ear canal up to the ear drum. Flying affects the air pressure in the middle ear behind the ear drum. You should be OK but may still experience the usual discomfort with air pressure changes. Continue to medicate the outer ear canal until symptoms abate. ...Read more

Have to take eardrops for swimmers ear the ear drops take a long time to go down?

May need a wick: If your ear is not feeling better and you are having trouble getting the drops in properly, you may need one or both of the following:
1. There may be a lot of debris (moist dead skin cells, fungus, etc) that needs to be cleaned out of the ear canal (typically by an ENT).

Eye drops in ears: Because eye drops are formulated to be quite gentle, they often can be used in the ears and are well tolerated by most patients, but they could still sting or burn a little. Ideally, the kind of drops that we use to treat swimmer's ear include antibiotics and steroids as well as a drying agent. None of the drops you have provide a drying agent, so see your pediatrician/ent doc for best results. ...Read more
