Can You Take Zantac While Pregnant
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Is Zantac (ranitidine) 75 safe to take when pregnant? Or is there something else that is preferred for acid reflux?
Is it okay to take rolaids in between my morning and nightly dose of Zantac (ranitidine) during pregnancy? Just taking Zantac (ranitidine) alone doesn't seem to work.
Depends...: What are you treating? If just indigestion, then antacids consumed 1 ; 3 hours after a meal and at bedtime may be helpful in the majority of patients, but may be too high a dose for a pregnant one. Don't know what your zantac (ranitidine) dose is either, ; perhaps with consent from your obstetrician this medication can be optimized. Stick with gerd diet and behavior restrictions (see prior healthtap answers. ...Read more

Gastroenterologist: This is not normal and I recommend that you consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. Gastritis is treated by a bland diet, AVoidance of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. If zantac, mylanta are no longer effective the next step is the taking of medications like prilosec or nexium, (esomeprazole) but your obstetrician would have to sanction its use. I've been trying to get pregnant and I am currently taking Zantac (acid reflux) and Benadryl. Could these medications keep me from conceiving? Thanks!
Possibly: Ranitidine has not been known to cause any problems with fertility or pregnancy, however diphenhydramine/Benadryl and other antihistamines theoretically can affect the implantation of the egg in the womb by decreasing bloodflow to the uterus. It is still debatable, (and there aren't any good studies on the subject), but it might be good to stop taking benadryl unless you REALLY need it. ...Read more

I have terrible acid reflux causing nausea and vomitting and I'm 38 weeks pregnant I have tried milk, Zantac, (ranitidine) thumbs and nothing helps. Normal?
Normal: At 38 weeks the baby is pushing on all the internal organs, especially the stomach and it's contents. Try eating much smaller meals and stay upright for at least an hour after eating. Hard but worth it. Tetralac, and antacid, has seemed to help my pregnant patients more than others and is safe to take. Elevated the head of the bed, it may also help. Congratulations and good luck. ...Read more
22 weeks pregnant have had bad heartburn for many weeks now. My throat burns when I eat spicy or acidic food. Been taking tums/zantac but not working?
Reflux & pregnancy.: Heartburn is expected during pregnancy. It's a factor of the upwards pressure upon the stomach by the growing baby, as well as the effect of progesterone in relaxing the valve between the esophagus and stomach. Unfortunately, many medications are not approved for safe use during pregnancy. Try eating smaller meals more frequently to get in your needed calories, and don't eat too late at night. ...Read more
