No interaction: You would not risk an interaction problem, but clearly you are having GI problems that are not being successfully treated - even symptomatically. Consider a full GI examination, Dx and treatment decisions. It might not result in clear answers, but it could and then life will be much nicer. Also, psychotherapy can help if anxiety is the cause. Taking lithium, geodon, buspirion, cymbalta, Singulair, and Allegra. Having heartburn daily. What is best to take...tums, Prilosec or other.
Tums or Prilosec: Either Tums or Prilosec are safe options to treat heartburn. There are no significant drug interactions for either of them. Prilosec gives more reliable acid suppression. Note: if you have to take it longer than two weeks, you’re going to want to loop your doctor in for further evaluation. If it’s simple heartburn, s/he should know anyway; if not, something more serious should be ruled out. ...Read more

Eat much?: Patient with hiatal hernia and reflux do not have a problem with how much they eat as much as what they eat. I have really bad heartburn. I ran out of usual med prilosec. Is there a home remedy that will relieve heartburn. Tums (calcium carbonate) or rolaids didn't help at all.
Maalox: If your heartburn is relieved by Prilosec go to the store and get it. Then follow up with your doctor to find out the cause of such bothersome symptoms. If you have a great deal of anxiety or stress in your life you may need something for that as well as learning meditation and coping skills. ...Read more
Best recommended OTC drug for random heartburn? No prilosec. Tums (calcium carbonate) and rolaids make me vomit. Nothing to chew. Rather a preventative than an as needed.
How about behaviors?: Assuming you have tried ranitidine (otc), here are some thoughts. Heartburn is caused by acidic stomach contents sloshing up into the less protected esophagus, and it can be brought on by acidic or spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, etc. If you are overweight or pregnant, you are more prone to heartburn because of the greater pressure in your belly. Eating late at night may bring it on, as can smoking. ...Read more

I take Xanax (alprazolam) XR 1mg and celexa 10mg. Just started celexa yesterday. Can I take Tums with this combination. What about 20mg of omeprazole?
Omeprazole raises the blood levels of Celexa which can lead to serious side effects. In general the highest dose of Celexa while on Omeprazole is 20mg per day. You really need to ask your doctor or prescriber to guide you as I do not know enough about your general health.
As far as alternating xanax (alprazolam) and Celexa my opinion is that this is not a good idea. Celexa is taken every day. ...Read more
I take Tums (calcium carbonate) every night for acid reflux.....Would it be better to have an operation? Omeprazole causes pain to my hips.
Go to your Doctor: Chronic reflux is not normal but does not mean you need surgery right away. Adjusting your diet and lifestyle is key. Surgery is usually the last option. If all you have done is take over the counter medications then it is time to get to your doctor and likely a scope of your esophagus and stomach will be recommended. Long term untreated reflux can lead to cancer in the esophagus. Get evaluated. ...Read more

3 days ago I took 40mg omeprazole stomach hurts, on Pepcid (famotidine) 10mg and took 5 tums. Today the runs 8x stomach stills hurts burping omeprazole up. Why?
Severe reflux: You seem to be using multiple medications for a problem that may need more expert attention, and I have no idea how long or how severe your problem is. The first way to approach severe GE reflux is to see a GI specialist. You probably need a diagnostic study or two to find out why your body rejects anti-reflux meds and then go from there. Any treatment will involve a change of dietary habits ...Read more

I'm on day 1 of taking Omeprazole for chronic acid reflux but it hasn't started working yet. Is it safe to additionally take antacids with this drug?
Yes: Go ahead and take the antacids especially if you know it works. It can take awhile to get relief. The inflammation can take several months to heal. You can: The two medicines work in a different way but for the same purpose.
