Do you think I should take probiotics while taking antibiotics ?

Perhaps, But ......: Since anti=against + bio=life + tic=thing are poisons, killing or suppressing whatever organisms are susceptible/sensitive to them, helpful or harmful, then your idea makes good sense. Unfortunately, large comparative clinical trials to help define/refine relative success vs. Failure are lacking, thus your own personal clinical trial(s) and guesses are the dominant evidence. ...Read more

Not only can, should!: I advise all my patients to take probiotics while on antibiotics. I advise everyone take Sacchromyces Boulardii (sold as FloraStor) and one with multiple strains of acidophilus/bifidus. Look for ones with at least 20 billion bacteria. Advanced Naturals is a quality line and Culturelle is also a good product.

Hello should i take probiotics whilst taking antibiotics, and how should i space the time between between taking them.

Depends how U use it: Erythromycin is best not on an empty stomach, and probiotics usually go well with right before you eat. So, you could space them apart. You may want to take double or triple the probiotic dose while you're on the antibiotics as it will wipe out your natural gut flora. And you should take it daily anyways on an ongoing basis, but at lower amounts just for gut health. ...Read more

If I take a probiotic supplement during a course of antibiotics, how far apart should I space the doses of each so they don't counteract each other?

While not routinely: recommended, taking probiotics with antibiotics is probably not harmful. It is more difficult to say that, in some way, it is greatly beneficial. For those who choose to do it, separating doses of probiotics and antibiotics by at least 2 hours is generally recommended -- to reduce chances of interaction, specifically the antibiotic killing off the probiotic organisms. Good wishes:) ...Read more

What probiotic pill may I take with my Cipro (ciprofloxacin) antibiotic?

What probiotic pill may I take with my Cipro (ciprofloxacin) antibiotic?

Natural probiotics: I believe 'natural' probiotics are better than pills. My personal favorite is yogurt - which these days comes in many brands and formulations like yogurt drinks. If you're not a yogurt fan, there is sour cream, (raw) sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha. With cipro, (ciprofloxacin) the major side-effects are nausea, diarrhea, weakness of tendons, and dizziness. If you take yogurt, separate the dose of Cipro (ciprofloxacin) from it. ...Read more
