PPIs: You are on a ppi (proton pump inhibitor). Yes: You need to be monitored for the side effects of Relafen and other nsaids. Prevacid can help decrease the risk of GI bleeding. It is a proton pump inhibitor. Vimovo (esomeprazole and naproxen) even has a proton pump inhibitor in the same pill with the Naproxen and decrease gastric ulcers. Difficult To Say: Prevacid (lansoprazole) is in the class called proton pump inhibitors. Without knowing your specific condition, it would be difficult to recommend or not recommend dosing every 2 or 3 nights. It takes 12 - 16 hours for these drugs to work after the first dose and based on the half-life of these drugs, you may not get relief without a dose every night. Depends...: Avoid foods & behavior that delay stomach emptying &/or relax the lower esophageal sphincter--spicy, greasy food, mints, alcohol, tobacco, chocolate, tomato-based products, caffeinated & fizzy drinks, eating before bedtime. Dr. Told me to take Nexium, (esomeprazole) but it interacts badly with my Valium. I haven't found any interaction with Prevacid. Ok to take with Valium?
Probably: There are drug interactions between almost everything. I can tell you many people take a proton pump inhibitor and a benzodiazepine without any problem, especially if both are taken on as needed basis. I assume you are already avoiding foods that provoke acid reflux, and working on weight loss if overweight. Yes: Long term use of ppis such as Prevacid (lansoprazole) has been associated with an increase risk of pneumonia in the elderly and an increase risk of bone fracture in older women. It can theorhetically cause malabsorption of b12, calcium and iron. Supplimenting these is probably adequate to prevent these complications.
