Abd pain after taking Excedrin yesterday. Tums (calcium carbonate) last nite. Better today but intermittent pain and heart burn. Stools ok. Egd last year norm. Causes?

Abdominal pain: It sounds that you have been stressed out (which can cause increase acidity in the stomach leading to abdominal pain and heart burn) and then you had to take a NSAID for something, which can exacerbate the acidity of the stomach and lead to pain. Try to relax as much as you for the rest of the weekend and find distractors from your stress. Tums OK, add Pepcid (famotidine) for a week. ...Read more

Can I take gaviscon & sudafed together, as I have really bad heart burn.?

Reflux: You can certainly take gaviscon and sudafed together, but if you are trying to treat heartburn there are other alternatives that should do better for you. First sudafed works well for nasal congestion and is not likely to give you much improvement in heat burn. Good heart burn medications include: Zantac, Tagamet, Prilosec and Nexium (esomeprazole). You could also try TUMS, mylanta or other antacids. ...Read more

The max dose for Zantac (ranitidine) is 2 150mg pills/day, but my heart burn is terrible and I have already taken 2. Can I take a tagamet on top of those two?

I wouldn't.: If your pain is so severe and is not being quelled by two Zantac (H2 blocker), then I would question whether it is acid reflux. I'd go see a physician. However, you can also consider trial of a proton pump inhibitor like nexium (esomeprazole) instead to see if it helps. I still recommend you seeing your doc. ...Read more

I took Pepcid 3 hours ago and my heart burn is still on going. I am desperate for relief. I have Zantac (ranitidine) 150. Will it help if I take the Zantac (ranitidine)?

I took Pepcid 3 hours ago and my heart burn is still on going. I am desperate for relief. I have Zantac (ranitidine) 150. Will it help if I take the Zantac (ranitidine)?

You can try: Taking zantac (ranitidine) this one time after the recent pepcid, but should get an official eval by GI to see why you are getting such bad heart burn. You need to alter your diet, avoid trigger foods, increase fiber and water in your diet. But as stated, you need an eval as there are stronger medications that may be needed, not to mention the exam you should have (with possible testing) as previously stated. ...Read more

I take Omeprazole 20mg once a day. I have a very bad heart burn would it hurt me to take another one?

Twice a day: You could take Omeprazole twice a day. But if a medication like this is not taking care of your heartburn it is wise to see your doctor for an evaluation. Metronidazole dose: You took quite a large dose of metronidazole, so the side effects are magnified. Luckily the half-life of the drug is 8 hrs or so, so it should be clearing out of your system in a day or slightly longer... (in 8 hours, half of the drug will be gone, then in 16 hours half of that...so soon it will be gone). You should tell your doctor about it, so they know next time when trying to treat you. ...Read more

Hi, I feel and look bloated but I have only eaten one meal today and I take Prilosec for frequent heart burn and imodeum for loose stole. What canido?

Stop all. Start over: One meal a day is unhealthy. Your metabolic rate slows. You get fat. Long-term use of Prilosec stops proper digestion and is not approved. And can cause diarrhea! Imodium (loperamide) binds you up. Stop all self therapy and give yourself a break... ...Read more
