Doctor insights on:
Can You Take Imodium And Bentyl On The Same Day
Yes, but why?: It sounds like you have some GI symptoms that may include cramping, gas, bloating, and loose stools. This may be related to irritable bowel syndrome, which is a functional disorder. However, a 'shotgun' approach is not the best way to manage it. See your doctor for a good history and physical exam, and s/he should be able to get you started on a management plan. The plan may need tweaking. ...Read more
Yes: Yes you can- None of these drugs should interact with the others, however, the immodium will slow down the intestine transit time and you should be aware of this. Bentyl (dicyclomine) an antispasm medicine might do the same. You should consult with your doctor before using both immodium and bentyl (dicyclomine) in one day. Also, slowing down the Gastrointestinal tract, could make a gas problem worse instead of better. ...Read more
Pepto + Imodium (loperamide): This should be no problem and often these two drugs are prescribed together. I would recommend that you space each drug as far apart from the other drug as possible. This way the pepto bismol will not interfere with the system absorption of the imodium (loperamide). ...Read more

Imodium (loperamide): I would question the real need for Imodium (loperamide) on a daily basis here. If your gastroenterologist is following you for ibs diarrhea-type, then this may be part of the therapy plan. But I would need more context to provide more detailed direction/recommendations. Seeing a licensed gastroenterologist (if you're not already) is recommended. ...Read more

Was taking clindamycin 150 mg 4 X day for 2 days now I have persistent diarrhea I stoped takeing it my pharmist told my to take Imodium (loperamide) to stop?
Diarrhea w/ antibx: This is a very common side-effect of antibiotics, but it doesn't mean you're allergic. Just that the normal bacteria in your gut are getting killed off and aren't able to help digest your food. You can use imodium (loperamide) to help firm your stools and stop the diarrhea. Read the package instructions and don't take too much. Then tell your Dr that you need something else for the infection s/he was treating ...Read more
Hi doctors, please I want to know if it is safe to take imodium for occasional diarrhea, along with Zoloft (200mg/day). Thank you in advance,?
Imodium isn't good: I don't recommend imodium or other meds that might stop diarrhea - because if u think about it, diarrhea is actually good. Your body is getting rid of toxins (bacteria, viruses etc) -so why stop it up? On rare occasion, such as a wedding, then I would agree. There are other ways to work with the symptoms though... such as staying at home half the day. No drug interactions to worry about w/ Zoloft ...Read more
Can I take imodium (loperamide) anti diarrhea with avelox. Second day on avelox and have diarrhea.?
You may: Temporary GI disturbances are quite common with antibiotics, so a little patience with this understanding comes handy to get the intended benefit from the treatment. I would recommend extra clear liquids like electrolyte solutions, yogurt and probiotic to help restore GI health before Imodium (loperamide). ...Read more
Does Dicyclomine 10 mg., one time daily, work same day for irritable bowel syndrome or may it take 2 weeks to work? What dosages does it come in?
It works fast, actually the dose is 10-20 mg before each meal, I will definitely start with 10 mg if this the first time user, to make sure there is no side effect. Work much better with IBS associated with loose BM.
adjusting diet, eat multiple small meals, avoid food that usually caused problems, and that based on each individual separately, exercise, and meditation, and stress management. ...Read more
Had a colonoscopy done the other day and Dr said my colon was twisted and I have a bunch of scar tissue. Was told take miralax (polyethylene glycol) and bentyl. Normal?
Yes with care.: Dicyclomine can slow bowel function down and so can hydrocodone and thus the combined effect of the two medications when used together can be constipation. Thus and if both are in use, I would be careful and watch out for slowed bowel function that can lead to constipation. Alert health care professional accordingly should change of bowel habits begin to occur if the above medications are in use. ...Read more
Yes, but: What are you treating? Bisacodyl is a laxative. Bentyl (dicyclomine) is an antispasmodic. To some extent the laxative would cause cramps to cause a movement and ease constipation. If this is your primary problem then you should just take the laxative. If cramps is the primary problem and you are not constipated, you don't need a laxative. ...Read more
