Vitamin A: Unless you have a lab study indicating that your vitamin a is low I suggest you not use cod liver old unless your doc asked you to. High quality Marine Fish Oil would be a good substitute if you are not on a blood thinner. Please see your doc to coordinate this. Peace and good health.

Vitamins: A good multivitamin is a good idea. It's like an insurance policy for when we don't eat right, don't sleep well, etc. Get some guidance because the popular brands are typically very week and not helpful. The dose (read label and check that half or more of the ingredients are several 100 per cent above RDA. Dose more important than a long list. Avoid cod liver oil over long term.

I give my 18 m old a multivitamin as well as the 2.5 ml of scotts emulsion cod liver oil daily... Is this okay?

Maybe, maybe not: Check with the multivitamin. The rda for the vitamin a & d may already be in that product & the cod liver oil, while ok as a source, may add enough a & d to be an excess. A & d are different from other vitamins that wash out in the urine daily if not used, they store in the bodies fat cells & can produce symptoms if accumulated to excess levels.

Omega-3 is helpful in lowering triglycerides and may have beneficial effects on the heart, may increase level of vitamin a and d; however the level of vitamin a may become too high if you consume too much of fish oil. So do it with moderation, as always consult your doctor.
