Can I take Claritin and Mucinex together while pregnant? Hello, I am 5 months pregnant and I took Claritin and Mucinex together. I took Claritin at 9:00pm and Mucinex at 12:30am. I really need to know if I hurt my baby? I am scared and don't know if I h

I: I can understand your fear, however the best thing for you and your baby is for you to relax and move on from here. The likelihood that any damage was done to your baby is very slim. Claritin is considered a pregnancy category b drug; this means that animal studies have not shown any risk to a fetus, therefore doctors consider drugs in this category to be considered safe and prescribe them all the time. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is considered a class c drug which means that animal studies have shown adverse effect on the fetus, however these are usually an issue when a large amount of the drug is used or the drug is used over an extended period of time. Regardless, many doctors prescribe drugs in this category because the benefits from use outweigh any potential risk to the fetus. Also keep in mind that these studies are usually in fetus that are very early (first trimester). At 5 months all your baby's major organs are developed and should not be affected by a class c drug. Lastly, I used category c drugs while pregnant as well as given them to my patients, and I have not seen one bad outcome from it. Your baby will be just fine. If you ever want to know which medications you can take don't hesitate to contact your doctor. Best of luck with your pregnancy.

Claritin d and Mucinex (guaifenesin) can you take them together?

Claritin d and Mucinex (guaifenesin) can you take them together?

Yes: Claritin d combines an antihistamine (loratadine) with a decongestant (pseudo-ephedrine). Mucinex (guaifenesin) is an expectorant. These are safe to take together. Would make sure that mucinex product is plain mucinex and not mucinex-d (which also contains pseudo-ephedrine) before taking these together.

Is it possible for you to take Mucinex (guaifenesin) if you're on claritin?

Yes: Claritin is an antihistamine medication which decreases allergy symptoms (watery itchy eyes, runny nose, itching etc). Mucinex (guaifenesin) is a mucolytic, breaks down mucus so it is not so thick and easier to drain. When taking Mucinex (guaifenesin) please drink an 8oz glass of water each time to avoid dehydration and allowing Mucinex (guaifenesin) to do its job properly.

Can u take Mucinex (guaifenesin) d with claritin?

Mixing URI meds: Yes. Mucinex (guaifenesin) d is an expectorant/decongestant combination and Clarinex is an antihistamine. The combination can be helpful for a short term problem. For a chronic upper respiratory problem a topical nasal steroid spray is likely to be of more benefit.

Currently using albuterol sulfate inhaler and taking loratadine (both prescribed). Any interaction concerns if I take Mucinex (guaifenesin) as well?

Medications: You do not have to worry, you can take all 3, but if your using Mucinex (guaifenesin) to treat mucus from asthma you need to see an allergist, get tested to determine your triggers and control your asthma better.

I've taken 3 doses of mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus max severe congestion relief today I'm over due for my next dose. Can I take Claritin -D instead now?

I've taken 3 doses of mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus max severe congestion relief today I'm over due for my next dose. Can I take Claritin -D instead now?

Yes: A good idea for self-medicating cold/sinus symptoms is to list your symptoms and present the list to the pharmacist who can guide you through the litany of options. If self-medication fails to improve symptoms or they worsen, best to consult a physician. That said, if you are otherwise healthy (and have no serious heart or blood pressure related condition) can now take the claritin-D.

Is it ok to take Mucinex (guaifenesin) and Claritin d during my 2 week of pregnancy?

No meds best: Plain Mucinex (guaifenesin) and plain Claritin are considered safe, no decongestants in the first trimester (some say all during pregnancy). However the less the better.

My 8 yr old takes loratadine syrup everyday for allergies, but her sinuses are very congested, is it ok to give her children's Mucinex (guaifenesin) with it?

Ok but: It is ok to give Mucinex (guaifenesin) but unless it's Mucinex (guaifenesin) d it would not do anything to decongest your child's "sinuses". Consult your doctor for a rx nasal spray or allergist to find out what your child may be allergic to.
