Sedation: Always discuss with your prescribing provider. These medications can used together with one caveat- taking Ativan and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) together may cause sedation. So, if you need to be awake in the middle of the day that could be a problem. Don't operate dangerous machinery or drive a vehicle if sedated. ...Read more

I took 3 20mg tablets of prednisone ended up in the er about 2 hrs after (im allergic) gave 2 shots benadryl (diphenhydramine) & ativan how long til Pred. Out of system?
Unlikely allergic: I presume your reactions were from the prednisone which may cause hyperactivity, depression, anxiety, insomnia, palpitation, flushing occasionally in a few people when given at this dose. I would expect these side effects to decline after about a day and subside altogether in 2-3 days. The problem may also be from the disease for which the prednisone was prescribed. Of three anti-emetics (ativan, benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and zofran) used on a pediatric oncology floor, why is ativan used?
It works for some: Each of the three drugs you listed work by targeting a different mechanism to help battle chemotherapy-induced nausea. It is not uncommon for a patient to require a schedule of all three, depending on the chemo being administered and the individual patient. Ativan can help with anxiety, but it is also an anti-emetic. Reglan (metoclopramide) is also commonly given with Benadryl to help fight nausea. ...Read more

Sleep: Since you have tried many medications for sleep it may be useful to change your lifestyle if you have not already. Daily exercise before 3pm, no caffeine after 3pm, no alcohol in the evening. If these methods do not work consult with a clinical psychologist who can help uncover the difficulties preventing sleep and how to develop better coping skills. My best. ...Read more
Why are zofran, ativan and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) the main three drugs used for nausea and vomiting on pediatric oncology?
They work well...: Every patient is different with respect to the best combination of anti-nausea medicines that works for them. We tailor an anti-nausea regimen based on the patient and what chemotherapy they are receiving. There are other medications that can be added to the ones you mentioned, as well as acupressure and acupuncture (applied safely) that can help patients. ...Read more

Ativan (lorazepam): Ativan (lorazepam) is not indicated for treatment of insomnia. It produces tolerance and dependence when used long-term. Long-term treatment with medication alone is not the optimal treatment strategy. Any abrupt or overly rapid reduction in Ativan (lorazepam) dose among chronic users can produce withdrawal. Symptoms and signs can include tremors, anxiety, perceptual disturbances, dysphoria, psychosis, and seizures. ...Read more

Caution....: Please keep in mind that taking medications that cause drowsiness, such as Ativan, a benzodiazepine, and Atarax, (hydroxyzine) an antihistiamine, can exacerbate the drowsiness and can lead to sedation. These side effects impair one's ability to execute functions such as driving or operating machinery. Recommending discussing with your doctor first and getting clearance. Hope this is helpful. Yes: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will help you sleep and help with excess mucus production. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is called an expectorant as it helps thin and loosen mucus to make your cough more effective at clearing the mucus from your lungs. There should be no problem taking these two medications together. ...Read more
Check with doc: Both cause sleepiness so combined makes even more so. Both can hurt you if you take too much, alone or together. It also depends on what other meds, drugs/alcohol, caffeine, you're taking & why you need the med in the first place. Good sleep is often obtained through good habits, and enough daily exercise & proper diet, to ensure a sound sleep. I bet a lot of marathon runners were ex-insomniacs! ...Read more
OVER SEDATION: All three Meds cause sedation. Try to space out dosages. Zyrtec& Allegra (fexofenadine) are better for allergies and less sedating. Is it okay to take 20 mg citalopram and 0.5 mg ativan (lorazepam) together? Or should they not be taken together?
I took the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) spay 45 minutes later took the pill didn't know I shouldn't take them together. 2 pills 25mg each. Will I be ok?
Can cause sedation.: In addition to acetaminophen, Naproxen or ibuprofen, midol contains pyrilamine which is an anti-histamine. It can cause drowsiness and dizziness which is compounded by ativan (lorazepam). I would advise you to use caution when using both, see how your body reacts, and separate the doses out as much as possible if needed. ...Read more
Not advised: Ativan (lorazepam) and Restoril (temazepam) are both benzodiazepine tranquilizers. Their effects can add together in a potentially dangerous way. That said, sometimes doctors prescribe both, with careful instructions to take them at different times (Ativan during the day, Restoril only at night). Since "benzos" are addictive, taking 2 different kinds is doubly risky. ...Read more

Fine: Taking those two together should be fine. I would ask your primary doctor though to be sure he/she is aware of the medications you are taking and for what is called "continuity of care." making sure your medical record is up to date is important and most emr's can check for any drug to drug interactions if future medications are prescribed as well. No: You shouldn't. It is irrational to use two benzodiazepines at one time. If it is being prescribed, your prescriber may not be aware of the dangers (or irrationality) of using two potent benzos together. If it is not being prescribed, you are clearly having benzodiazepine abuse. This combination produces significant physical dependency, and should not be stopped abruptly but tapered. Seek help. ...Read more
Should be ok if...: If a person had no problems taking meloxicam (Mobic) in the past for some medical condition, and separately had no problem taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in the past, then she should be ok taking the medications at the same time.
