No difference: Ampicillin and amoxicillin are virtually identical; either drug is equally effective, but amp is taken more frequenlty and diarrhea is a more common side effect. However, nobody should take antibiotics without professional advice. If she has a bacterial infection, amp or amox isn't necessarily a good choice; best antibiotic depends on the specific illness and the particular bacteria causing it.

That's fine: The form you have may be taken without respect to meals. That is to say, you may take it before, during, or after meals *or* on an empty stomach and, thankfully, don't have to worry about it in the slightest. Sleep well! Www. Healthtap. Com/charlesturck

Is it bad to take amoxicillin while stomach is sick?

Is it bad to take amoxicillin while stomach is sick?

Maybe: I assume you mean that you are nauseated (feel like throwing up). Any medication added to an inflamed intestine may worsen the nausea, but if tolerated and the infection was creating the nausea, may also make it better with time.

I am taking amoxicillin and it is causing my stomach to be upset. What can I do or take to eliminate the discomfort?

I am taking amoxicillin and it is causing my stomach to be upset. What can I do or take to eliminate the discomfort?

For your stomach: Be sure to drink at least one cup of fluid - slowly over 3-5 minutes - with your medicine. Also, eat 2 or 3 saltine crackers 2-3 minutes before and again about 3-4 minutes after taking your medicine. Don't combine other meds with it. Is it possible you have a mild gastritis or reflux esophagitis.

Is upset stomach usually associated with amoxicillin? I've taken two 500 mg pills with little to no food. Can you take it with or without food?

Is upset stomach usually associated with amoxicillin? I've taken two 500 mg pills with little to no food. Can you take it with or without food?

Usually no problem: Amoxicillin rarely upsets the stomach, but if you think it's happening to you, take it with some food. It is equally well absorbed and equally effective taken with or without food.

Is it okay to take a break from amoxicillin for Lyme disease? The stomach pain is really bothering me.

Is it okay to take a break from amoxicillin for Lyme disease? The stomach pain is really bothering me.

Consult prescriber: If not already tried then try taking Amoxicillin with food to reduce stomach irritation. If no relief your doctor can review your condition, medication & adverse effects & determine if an alternative is appropriate. You should not have to suffer with stomach pain. Another med may be just as good without adverse effect.

Just had big dental surgery and finished 7 days of amoxicillin. May it be wise to take probiotics to increase good bacteria for an unsettled stomach?

Just had big dental surgery and finished 7 days of amoxicillin. May it be wise to take probiotics to increase good bacteria for an unsettled stomach?

Yes to Probiotics: "pro"-biotics put good organisms into your gut (unlike "anti"-biotics which kill bacteria) & include: lactobacillus, acidophilus, bifidobacter, sachromyces boulardes, to name a few. Most are available over-the-counter & need to be taken daily to maintain the probiotic organism population. Benefits include: less gas, regulated bowels, prevent infections, improve digestion, decrease inflammation.

I am having severe pain below abdomen after my menstruation and I have a history of UTI. Can I take clindamycin and amoxicillin together?

I am having severe pain below abdomen after my menstruation and I have a history of UTI. Can I take clindamycin and amoxicillin together?

UTI? STD? PID?: You can take these together if both prescribed by a doctor who knows you're taking both. Self treatment with antibiotics in this situation could be dangerous. The combination of UTI symptoms plus abdominal pain suggest infections like STDs, including fallopian tube infection (pelvic inflammatory disease, PID). Whatever is going on, it could be serious. See a doctor if you haven't done so.

I have gastritis can amoxicillin give me bad stomach pains I had a sinus infection so they gave me this? And if so is there anything else I can take?

I have gastritis can amoxicillin give me bad stomach pains I had a sinus infection so they gave me this? And if so is there anything else I can take?

Probiotics may help: Alcohol and tobacco use, will not help your gastritis and should be discontinued. The gastritis is the more likely cause of your symptoms but Amoxicillin (especially hen combined with clavulonaged) can alter your gastrointestinal flora causing upset and diarrhea. Probiotics may help in this case.

Taking amoxicillin, feel bloated, some pain in abdomen. Is this normal?

Common side effects: Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common side effects of Amoxicillin. Abdominal pain may potentially be a side effect, especially, in the setting of gastritis. The medication can cause liver inflammation and liver enzyme elevation particularly if there is already an underlying liver disease. If it does not subside, consult the doctor having prescribed the medication.

Amoxil (amoxicillin) on a full stomach, is that okay?

Amoxil (amoxicillin) on a full stomach, is that okay?

Amoxil (amoxicillin) and Food: Amoxicillin can be taken with or without food. It shouldn't matter. Certainly if you get an upset stomach if you take it on an empty stomach, then take it with food.

What can I do about a sour stomach while on amoxicillin? Any particular foods that will help?

Antacid: Amoxicillin may not be the cause; it is well tolerated and rarely causes somach upset. Whatever the cause, try an antacid or one of the many over-the-counter acid blocking drugs. Discuss with your doctor if it doesn't help or if the problem continues after you have finished the antibiotic.
