Fexofenadine is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergies such as hayfever, and hives. It can be taken once or twice a day. It is a second generation antihistamine and does not cause as much drowsiness as other antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benaryl) or chlorpheniramine. Always be careful about drowsiness with any antihistamine especially if driving ...Read more
Probably not: I couldn't find the exact ingredients in mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus max but presume it does contain pseudoephedrine as well. When you take Allegra D, you are getting this ingredient as well and may end up with elevated BP, faster heart rate, and /or insomnia. If it does not contain a decongestant, it would be ok. ...Read more
Yes: Plain Mucines is guaifenesin, which helps break up mucus. Allegra (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine. Be cautious when picking out medications and be sure to know what products you are taking. There are many versions of Mucinex- including DM, multi symptom, sinus, allergy etc. These other versions have additional things that you may not need. Stick with single ingredient medicines when you can. ...Read more
Good Evening I'm battling allergies right now and I was wondering if I could take mucinex or NyQuil after taking Allegra at 10pm?
Can it be bad to take allegra, melatonin, Mucinex (guaifenesin) and echinacea all at once before I go to bed?
Many pills etc.:
I see a list of four pills. Do you really need each of them?
They are unlikely to do much, if any, harm, but I would spread them out over the day rather than all at once at bedtime ...Read more

Fever 2 days ago, coughing, taking Mucinex for cough, allegra for allergy, is it ok to take 2 tylenol (acetaminophen) for back pain with these other meds?
I have severe congestion, sneezing, runny nose, awful dry sometimes yellow mucus cough, my mucus from my nose is clear. I took allegra, did not help at all. I cant decide if its allergies or a sinus infection/cold. Its been 3 days. Should I take mucinex c
Infection?: Try a different antihistamine, like Benadryl (diphenhydramine). If 25-50 mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) makes no difference, then it is not likely that your symptoms are due to allergies. There is no good evidence that mucinex is much help and it is expensive and has its own side effects, and I never recommend it. Avoid fragrances and aerosols while sick (add to irritation of respiratory tract). See MD if no better in 2-3 days. ...Read more

I found out I am 5 weeks preg. I was on meds prior to finding out. I used coltsfoot tea, allegra, singular, mucinex, nasonex (mometasone). Will this harm the fetus?
Probably not: Singulair and Guaifenesin (mucinex, not with d) are quite safe. Allegra is a pregnancy class c drug, but there don't seem to be no known bad side effects. Nasonex (mometasone) is fine. Coltsfoot tea has been banned in some countries because it contains tiny amounts of chemicals that can cause liver damage and cancer. Still, the tea may be safe, but the fda has determined the have indeterminate safety. ...Read more
What works better for running nose, allergies? Allegra, Claritin, Zytrec, or Mucinex (guaifenesin)? Debating on which one to get. Fast and 24 hr relief is what am looking for.
Allergy: True allergy should be treated with an antiallergy medication such as loratadine, fexofenadine or cetirizine. They are generally considered equivalent and you should use the one that works best for you. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is an expectorant and should not do much for allergy. ...Read more

Yes, but why: Both Allegra and Claritin (loratadine) are new generation antihistamines used to treat allergies. Not necessary: Both Allegra (fexofenadine) and Claritin (loratadine) are new generation antihistamines. There is no particular advantage to taking both together. On the other hand, there is probably no harm either. If symptoms are not controlled with antihistamines, see your doctor to confirm your diagnosis and get appropriate treatment. ...Read more
Not advisable: I would not take both at the same time because these medications do the same thing and can have additive effects if used together. They are both antihistamines for the treatment of allergies. If one of these alone is not helping, sometimes switching to the other one is helpful. If none of these remedies work, then consultation with your doctor or allergist would be appropriate. ...Read more
Not recommended: Those are both drugs of the same classification, antihistamines. They should not be taken together, one or the other. If you need more help with your allergies, you should see your primary care doctor, an allergist, or an ENT allergist. There are many other rx that can be used. You could benefit from allergy testing and a detailed nasal and sinus exam. ...Read more
Yes, but why: Claritin (loratadine) and Allegra are both new generation antihistamines while the d is pseudoephedrine, a decongestant. Typically one or the other medication should be sufficient, although there are no drug interactions or side effects.
