Fexofenadine (Definition)

Fexofenadine is an antihistamine which is used to treat allergies such as hayfever, and hives. It can be taken once or twice a day. It is a second generation antihistamine and does not cause as much drowsiness as other antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benaryl) or chlorpheniramine. Always be careful about drowsiness with any antihistamine especially if driving ...Read more

What is the difference between allegra (fexofenadine) and Flonase for allergy relief -take one or both?

What is the difference between allegra (fexofenadine) and Flonase for allergy relief -take one or both?

Flonase better: Allegra is an atihistamine and is helpful for itchiness, sneezing and a runny nose, not helpful for congestion. Flonase, an intranasal steroid covers all these symptoms plus congestion. Head to head studies comparing Flonase to antihistamines, singulair, (montelukast) or sudafed showed that Flonase beat them all. I usually suggest daily Flonase and adding an antihistamine on as needed or supplemental basis. ...Read more

My allergies are unbearable today. I take Zyrtec and Flonase daily and they did nothing. I took Allegra too with no relief, can I also take Claritin (loratadine)?

My allergies are unbearable today. I take Zyrtec and Flonase daily and they did nothing. I took Allegra too with no relief, can I also take Claritin (loratadine)?

You can, but: It is unlikely to add additional coverage after taking both Zyrtec and Allegra (fexofenadine). It is important to understand that blocking histamine receptors is not a cure-all for allergy. There are many potential symptoms that may be driving you crazy and knowing more about them will help a physician to recommend short term therapy for short term relief. See Allergist and consider virtual consult if needed. ...Read more

I take flonase and allergra for seasonal allergies, and that usually controls it. Today it is not. Can I take allegra, claritin, or benadryl?

I take flonase and allergra for seasonal allergies, and that usually controls it. Today it is not. Can I take allegra, claritin, or benadryl?

Allergy treatment: If taking Allegra already you should not double up on a long acting antihistamine (Allegra, Claritin, Zyrtec). This can cause heart issues.
Intra-nasal steroids (Flonase) should be used routinely. Adding Allegra is fine on an-needed basis. Adding short acting (Benadryl) is ok but indicates need for better preventive care (environmental controls, more consistent Flonase use, allergy shots). ...Read more

I am taking regular allegra (fexofenadine) 24 hours along with flonase and eye drops. Not getting much relief....is it safe to also take zyrtec d or sudafed d?

It is safe to take: sudafed, but not zyrtec and allegra (fexofenadine) together-only 1 or the other. I would try zyrtec, it is stronger than allegra (fexofenadine). No decongestants if you have high blood pressure. No zyrtec D and sudafed together, as they both contain decongestants. Use zyrtec plain. ...Read more

How long should I keep taking Flonase and allegra (fexofenadine) and do they negatively impact each other at all?

However, if you have been on these medicines for a while, I would recommend seeing an allergist for more definitive treatment options. ...Read more

Been getting brain zaps after 1 week on Allegra (fexofenadine). Had the same on Flonase. Is this something to be concerned about?

"Zaps"? Not sure, but: If you are worried about side effects, I can't connect the two; they are completely different medications. Allegra (fexofenadine) does not cross into the brain, even at 2-3x recommended doses; unlike other antihistamines, FAA allows flying a plane while on Allegra (fexofenadine). Flonase can cause side effects, but many other things would happen before a brain issue. Better check with your doctor. ...Read more

Why even on routine of Allegra (fexofenadine) and Flonase are itchy eyes harder to treat than any other hay fever symptom? Do I need RX eye drops?

Conjunctivitis: Everyone responds to allergies differently, but persistent eye symptoms refactory to over-the-counter eyedrops might benefit from a prescription grade preparation. Make sure that you are practicing good avoidance measures, avoiding overuse of contacts when eyes are irritated, and washing eyes out with preservative-free drops. If you have persistent symptoms see an Allergist for further workup. ...Read more

Avoid antihistamines: Limited info from your comment... but drying the mucosa with antihistamines can thicken secretions and block the eustachian tube. This makes it more difficult to clear your ears. Consider irrigating your nasal passages with warm saline rinse and performing ear clearing maneuvers such as found at http://www. Digplanet. Com/wiki/Ear_clearing
Thick fluid in the middle ear may need a simple operation ...Read more

Can montelkaust, allegra and fluticasone nasal spray be combined?

Ok to combine: Each of the medications listed work by a different mechanism. Montelukast blocks the effects of leukotrienes; allergra is a new generation antihistamine; and fluticasone is a corticosteroid nasal spray. At the usual doses, there should be no problem with interaction. However, if a person is needing this much medication therapy, it may be prudent to consult an allergist. ...Read more

64 yom has been experiencing cough with mucus and runny nose in the am for 6 months. No fever or other complains Taking alegra and Flonase, no help?

Post Nasal Drip: Chronic cough is most commonly due to 3 conditions: asthma, post-nasal drip, or GERD (heartburn). You might have one or a combination of all three. Further workup by Allergist is helpful as they can perform a more detailed assessment including skin testing, pulmonary function testing, and. Chest x-ray. Sounds like chronic rhinitis, avoidance of triggers important, allergy shots could be an option. ...Read more

Can I use fluticasone propionate nasal spray, fexofenadine hydrochloride & diphenhydramine hydrochloride at the same time?

Yes, but: The combination treatment of a topical nasal steroid spray such as fluticasone and a new generation antihistamine such as fexofenadine is a great combination. The use of old antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (benadryl) is usually not necessary and carries more side effects. If symptoms are not controlled on this regimen seek advice from an allergist for a better plan. ...Read more
