It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more
Yes and no: As single cells, the naked eye would not be able to see individual white blood cells. So if there is just a small amount you could not rely on just looking at urine and know with certainty. However, in large groups as pus, white blood cells and other materials can be seen in this way. So large amounts would be more obvious, just like looking at pus around a wound. ...Read more

On my lab work, one test said "HEMOGLOBIN UR: 2+". Can you tell me what this indicates? I was on last day of period but didn't see blood in urine cup.
Probably OK: Positive urine dip stik for Hemoglobin is common. Particularly if you were stillon your period. This also occurs with NSAIDS and blood thinners being most common. Not to overlook serious problems, I will repeat the test on 2-3 weeks and be guided by results. In your case at 45 repeat urinalysis in 2-3 weeks is best advice. If the positive test persists, more complete evaluation is next. ...Read more

Testicular pain for about two weeks and pain in lower back. Took amoxicillin for 4 days and doxy for 7. No help. No pain or blood in urine. See doc?
Stop Rx, see doctor: You might be worried about epididymitis, but unlikely without obvious testicular enlargement and marked tenderness, usually involving only one testicle. Both testicles plus pain in back or abdomen suggest a prostate problem. The most common of these is chronic pelvic pain syndrome, a variation on prostatitis, but not due to infection so antibiotics don't work. Stop all treatment and see a doctor. ...Read more
My consultant wants to see me for a cystoscopy and scan of my kidneys, had 12mths+ of blood in urine, no infection, pelvic pain Which scan will he do?
Likely CT scan: Your consultant will likely order a CT scan without and with intravenous contrast, including some delayed images about 5 minutes after contrast administration to get the best assessment of the kidneys, ureters (given history of hematuria) and other abdominal and pelvic organs. A urine sample should also be sent for a cytologic analysis to pathologist ...Read more

See answer below: Visible blood in the urine (aka gross hematuria) related to a UTI (aka hemorrhagic cystitis) is most often accompanied with other bladder symptoms (urinary urgency, frequency, burning and discomfort) and usually subsides within 24-72 hours IF on the correct antibiotic. Painless hematuria is a red flag and is often related to other causes and deserves further evaluation, even if it is self-limiting ...Read more
What could cause my 16 month old little girl to cry and hold her vaginal area? I have called her pediatrician, he isn't concerned nor wanted to see her. She has been doing this for a week now off and on. No temp, no blood in urine, no redness or swellin
Make her an appt...: I would call and get her an appointment anyway. It is not normal for her to experience focused pain like that. Some possible causes include a simple diaper rash in the area that is irritated by urinating. Even without the doctor's appointment, you can look down there yourself to see if you see any redness and treat it as you would a regular diaper rash. Might require an anti-fungal cream from dr. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
