Bed Bugs (Definition)

The bed bug is a parasite that is nocturnal. It can be transported on your clothing, luggage, second hand furniture etc. You can even get it using public transportation. It can go up to a year without feeding, so that allows it to just sit and wait until it catches a ride on something or someone. If you live in an apartment complex it may move from one unit to another. It ...Read more

What do bed bug bites on the eye lids look like?

What do bed bug bites on the eye lids look like?

If the lesions are : Only on the eye lids - i would be doubtful that they were bedbugs. Bites are usually in areas that are exposed while sleeping-arms, shoulders, neck & legs. I can only describe bed bug bites in general (not specific to eye area). Bed bug bites may cause no sx's/signs in some except for 2 small points where skin was punctured by bedbug. When there's a reaction, it may show from an hour to several >. ...Read more

I woke up yesterday morning with little red dots/welts on my thighs. They do not itch and i checked for bed bugs and didn't see any bugs. What is it?

Many possibilities: Bed bug bites are very itchy so this is unlikely. Red bumps can occur wih insect bite such as mosquitoes, bed bugs, spiders etc. Bug bites usually bother people. Red bumps without itch or pain can be from viruses, irritants on the skin, reactions to fodd/medicine ingested or common diseases. In many cases the cause is never found and they just go away. See your doctor if they persist. ...Read more

Is it plausible that bed bugs could spread sexually transmitted disease's since it feasts on human blood?

Is it plausible that bed bugs could spread sexually transmitted disease's since it feasts on human blood?

Plausible not likely: No recorded cases that i know of. Not for bed bugs or kissing bugs. Mosquitoes can transfer malaria from one human to another but i know of no cases of hiv/aids transmitted by this vector. That should be reassuring because both malaria & HIV are endemic to the same areas of tropical africa. Anyone else have information on this terrorfying scenario? ...Read more
