Should a broken ankle still hurt after its been put in a cast?

Should a broken ankle still hurt after its been put in a cast?

Probably: The cast is to stabilize and position the ankle in a proper position for healing. It also keeps you from re-injuring it. It does not eliminate the pain. Your pain should be managed by your treating physician - either with narcotic analgesics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaid's).

Sorry difficult to: Understand your exact question, but if you have a broken bone, you will have to go see your orthopaedic surgeon, and make sure you are compliant with any recommended treatment (s), including weightbearing recommendations, etc. If you have any questions with the treatment recommendation (which varies depending on fracture type), make sure to ask your orthopaedic surgeon before leaving his/her office

Return to surgeon: Go back to your surgeon that corrected the broken ankle and tell him/ her your concerns, and that you would like a low profile walking cast boot to help with partial weight bearing. Also ask him /her if physical therapy is needed.

I have a broken ankle 3 weeks ago I have a cast on but every time I put my foot down start to get purple?

Cast on foot: This is not normal. Perhaps the cast is too tight. You should report this to your doctor and get checked for cast being too tight.

I am 1 year post op for removing a screw that was put in for a broken ankle, and I still have pain when I walk for a long time. Can therapy help?

I am 1 year post op for removing a screw that was put in for a broken ankle, and I still have pain when I walk for a long time. Can therapy help?

Possibly: If the initial ankle injury involved the joint surface, pain can persist for a long time. Anytime a joint is involved in injury it is possible for post traumatic arthritis to set in. If no joint involvement then stability and functional issues can create pain, both of which are improved with physical therapy. Bracing and orthotics can provide functional stability and pain reduction also.
