Why did you say don't use armour thyroid?

What happens to your body if you run out of Armour thyroid?

What happens to your body if you run out of Armour thyroid?

Hypothyroidism: Whether you forget or run out of your Armour thyroid or branded/generic levothyroxine, you'll eventually return to your previous hypothyroid state w/its attendant symptoms. Of course, if you're not convinced that you needed it in first place, it's best to discuss w/prescribing physician. In meantime, always plan to check TSH at least twice 6wks apart after changing or stopping medication. ...Read more

How long does it take after beginning Armour Thyroid to feel the improvements in your health, and how long before calling dr. If not working?

How long does it take after beginning Armour Thyroid to feel the improvements in your health, and how long before calling dr. If not working?

It depends: It takes weeks to months to improve symptoms related to hypothyroidism, but it also depends on how low your thyroid level was before starting treatment, and what symptoms are related to the thyroid as opposed to other reasons. I have seen many people with marginally abnormal TSH levels, who did not note improvement in symptoms despite normalizing their levels with thyroid hormone. ...Read more

I was wondering is Armour Thyroid better than levothyroxin?

I was wondering is Armour Thyroid better than levothyroxin?

Armour Thyroid: Some people say that Armour Thyroid is better, but really it is just different. Armour is a physiological mix of T3 (liothyronine) and T4 in the form of an extract of pig thyroid gland. Levothyroxin is a synthetic T4. It is true that some patients do feel better on Armour. Some patients feel better on Levothyroxine. The synthetic T4s can cause more of an increase in reverse T3 (liothyronine). ...Read more

Could you tell me why has my libido drastically declined since taking armour thyroid?

Could you tell me why has my libido drastically declined since taking armour thyroid?

Go see your doctor: Tell your doc (whoever prescribed Armour Thyroid) what you've noted. Thyroid replacement, whether levothyroxine or dried pig thyroid, shouldn't negatively impact your sex drive. However, that assumes you're really taking what you think you are and not be contaminated by some unmonitored dietary supplement. Or perhaps you have a pituitary cause for both hypothyroidism & hypogonadism. So go see doc ...Read more

Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Levothyroxine.: Levothyroxine, generic form of synthroid, has many advantages over armour thyroid. The armour product has significant batch to batch variation and has T3 (liothyronine) in it. Since the T3 (liothyronine) portion of armour has a very quick onset and short duration, it can wreak havoc with the ability to effectively treat hypothyroidism. Until there is a long-acting form of T3 (liothyronine) available, stick to levothyroxine. ...Read more
