Hard head: Like most folks I have been there with a hard head knock. Getting out of a cab I hit my head when I pulled down the lid. Bled for hours but have survived well many years since.
Relax and keep going with your good grades. ...Read more

I hit my head all the time when I'm upset. Someone told me that it can kill brain cells. Is that true?

I hit my head all the time when I'm upset. Someone told me that it can kill brain cells. Is that true?

Not certain: What do you mean by all the time? How hard do you hit your head? Have you ever had symptoms such as headaches? There is a repetitive brain trauma syndrome but this belongs to boxers, not people who slap their foreheads 2-3 times a day. The brain is well encased and protected by a floating cushion - it should survive your assaults. But I guess my question for you is, "Why do it? " Be well! ...Read more

Could only sign of a brain injury in a 2 year old be crankiness? Hit his head on cement 3 days ago. Small bump on forehead gone. No other symptoms & he's getting molars. Didn't lose consciousness or cry. PERRLA.

Could only sign of a brain injury in a 2 year old be crankiness? Hit his head on cement 3 days ago. Small bump on forehead gone. No other symptoms & he's getting molars. Didn't lose consciousness or cry. PERRLA.

Sounds normal: I wouldn't use "brain injury" as a descriptor (too loaded with worry)but a kid can be cranky for 1-2 wks after a simple fall. Toddlers can have the equivalent of a migraine come & go in the same time frame with this form of trauma, usually lasting <1hr at a time. If he didn't get knocked out I think the possibility of a significant issue approaches zero. ...Read more

Got about 1 1/2 hours till 48 hours after hitting my head should I still worry about brain bleeds pr anything else?

Got about 1 1/2 hours till 48 hours after hitting my head should I still worry about brain bleeds pr anything else?

Hit on the head: No, 48 hrs after a hit to your head, you don't really need to worry about brain bleeds any more. Change in vision, nausea/vomiting, dizziness and worsening headache are all things to seek care for if they develop. However, any hit to the head raises concern for mild concussion which can linger. So, if you have any trouble with sleep, agitation, ongoing headache, fatigue, get some help. ...Read more

Can you get a brain tumor from hitting your head too hard?

I am 60 hours since hitting head, my pupils are still equal and react to light, can I rule out brain bleeding?

I am 60 hours since hitting head, my pupils are still equal and react to light, can I rule out brain bleeding?

No: Loss of pupil reflex is a very late and very serious finding. Assuming a mild trauma (hit on counter etc) the likelihood of intracranial bleed is low. Many studies also have demonstrated that even with significant trauma, in the absence of neurological symptoms, bleed is unlikely. The only way to know for sure is ct. If you have any symptoms, see your doctor. ...Read more

Could hitting head 12 years ago result in unruptured, (but could rupture), brain aneurysm? Would I know by now if I have one if so?

Could hitting head 12 years ago result in unruptured, (but could rupture), brain aneurysm? Would I know by now if I have one if so?

Not related: Head trauma does not cause brain aneurysms, as these are congenital berry aneurysms or caused by uncontrolled chronic hypertension (Charcot-Bouchard).
Trauma can cause large extra cranial vascular dissections, but these are acute to subacute. Why do you worry about an aneurysm? Would a Concierge visit with evaluation help? ...Read more

Can hitting your head cause brain aneurysm? Mild to severe head trauma with pain resolution after 4 minutes.

Can hitting your head cause brain aneurysm? Mild to severe head trauma with pain resolution after 4 minutes.

No, not possible.: No, trauma to the head cannot cause an aneurysm. But I want to make sure we are using the terms in a similar fashion. An aneurysm is an unstable blood vessel, a bleed in the brain is a different process. A hard enough trauma could cause bleeding in the brain or it could (rarely) cause rupture of an existing aneurysm. ...Read more

How long after hitting your head would you notice signs of bleeding in brain? Hit head on corner of concrete wall 7 hrs ago. Have a headache.

How long after hitting your head would you notice signs of bleeding in brain? Hit head on corner of concrete wall 7 hrs ago. Have a headache.

Variable: This depends on the size and location of the "bleed." something large or in more eloquent areas would probably be noticeable sooner than a small one in not-as-important areas. Very small one might not be noticed at all. In severe cases, you could lose consciousness. Also, if a hemorrhage grows, it could become more noticeable. Somethings can progress over minutes/hours, while others can take days. ...Read more

I had a brain MRI without contrast after hitting my head that was "normal". Would it have shown increased pressure or bleeding without contrast?

CT w/o contrast: MRIs ate great but not the gold standard for strokes or bleeding. A CT w/o contrast is usually what is used to determine if you are bleeding in your brain. In any event Imagining is only a small part of the puzzle, your history plus how you hit your head and your current symptoms plus vital signs all need to be looked at together. IF Recurring symptoms or worsening get to ED/ urgent car ...Read more

Could a 2 month old forcefully hitting her head into my head while I burp her cause a concussion or brain damage to her?

Very Unlikely: This is very unlikely.
