My daughter was born march 22, 2013 when do they start teething? I think she might be, can that happen if so what can she take?

Yes!: Congratulations! some babies are actually born with teeth already. Dip a clean wash cloth in ice water, wring it out and let your baby gnaw on it. It gives them lots of relief and is better than a medicine. Tylenol (acetaminophen) drops can work wonders, too. Ask your childs peditrician. ...Read more

Hydrops: It sounds like you are describing a condition called hydrous fetalis which is "heart failure" in a baby before it is born. There are many potential causes including congenital infections, severe fetal anemia due to either infection or maternal fetal blood type incompatibility, low heart rate or very fast heart rate, or other causes. These problems may or may not recur in future pregnancies. ...Read more

My sister has polycystic ovaries & she gets her period randomly throughout the year. Will she still be fertile to have a child or does she need help?

Depends: Pcos with irregular periods means she is not ovulating consistently each month. Without ovulation there is no egg to be fertilized. Weight loss is very important with pcos. There are medications such as metformin and Clomid (clomiphene) which help women with pcos ovulate. ...Read more

Where can I get my mother in law psychologically evaluated? Not sure if she is early alzheimers or something else. She is on Medicaid

Where can I get my mother in law psychologically evaluated? Not sure if she is early alzheimers or something else. She is on Medicaid

Start with PCP: In most states people on Medicaid must have a primary care provider, and that is the place to start. It requires more than neuropsychological testing, since there are many medical conditions that can mimic Alzheimers, some of which can be more effectively treated (hypothyroidism, central nervous system infections, vitamin deficiencies, brain tumors etc). Your PCP should know how to work up/refer. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my father has ptsd and I'm just wondering will he ever be normal again?

Good info: Start by learning about PTSD at the National Center for PTSD web page http://www.ptsd.va.gov/ If your Dad is a veteran, some good books are out there. "Thanks for your service" by David Finkel is excellent. With good treatment, your Dad has the potential for progress. Let him know you're interested and encourage him to seek expert help. It makes a difference that you care! ...Read more

If a woman or her husband has hiv/aids, if she will become pregnant, the child will has as well? Can it be cured before getting pregnant ?

If a woman or her husband has hiv/aids, if she will become pregnant, the child will has as well? Can it be cured before getting pregnant ?

Managable problem: If someone has HIV and access to treatment, they can have offspring that do not get the disease. This does require coordinated care between the infectious disease specialists, the obstetrician managing the pregnancy, and the doc following the newborn. A pregnant mother in good control (low viral load) can give birth to an infant that does not get hiv.No cure for HIV has been found to date. ...Read more

My mom was diagnosed copd, she is 70. She is in stage 3, what can I do to help her. How much time do we have. She has never smoked.?

Multiple things: First you should discuss your moms specifics with her doctor. The COPD stage is not precise enough to say how long one might live. With good care of the COPD one can live a long time. Treatment entails a number of things that a patient should seek, include smoking cessation, use of inhaled medicines to decrease symptoms, a flu shot yearly, pneumonia vaccine and pulmonary rehab. Oxygen if needed. ...Read more

Could someone who has had musculum contagiosum when they were young catch it again when there older ? And can you explain more about what it is ??

Could someone who has had musculum contagiosum when they were young catch it again when there older ? And can you explain more about what it is ??

Virus: Molloscum contagiosum is a viral skin lesion that is seen in young children and can spread through water. I suppose it can be present in an older person. The literature would suggest that its presence in an adult might be related to some immune deficiency in the patient as this virus is not so typical in adults. I would see PCP or dermatologist to make sure of diagnosis. ...Read more

My girlfriend wants to be a guy. We were wondering if we can have babies after she becomes a guy. By the way, we are both girls.?

Adoption, or...: Great question. Even though your mate is going to be a male, she will not have 'sperm' to mate with your egg. Thus, no natural birth is possible between you. However, one may be able to secure an outside 'sperm donor' to assist in the fertilization process. Best to discuss all this with your family physician who can direct you to the right specialists. ...Read more

Can someone become a carrier of the chicken pox virus? I have shingles and my friend wants to come visit. She had chicken pox when she was little, however her little brother at home has not. Her mom said if she comes into contact with me she will be a car

Depends: If she comes over & contaminates her hands with debris from the weeping zoster sores she could, in theory transfer that contagion to another for a few hours. (until hands are washed) Otherwise she won't. Shingles does not spread the virus in the air (like chickenpox) so being around you couldn't make her a carrier & those who have had it cannot transport it like they might a strep throat. ...Read more

I was intoxicated the night that me and my gal got intimate and I have two questions one if a man is intoxicated is it possible that he will not be able to release if he was able to get an erection my girl kept telling me she knew when she could feel when

Hello, : Hello, this is a bit confusing. Although alcohol intoxication can be a reason for sexual dysfunction, just because a man was intoxicated when he ejaculated it does not mean he will not release semen / sperm. Normally, if a woman has what is her normal period after the sexual intercourse, that would meant that she is not pregnant. ...Read more
