Doctor insights on:
Can You Have Hsv 1 And Hsv 2
Not really...: The way you ask the question, I assume you mean some sort of chronic neurological problem. The answer is a definite no; HSV doesn't do that. Recurrent outbreaks can be preceded by "prodrome" of tingling or pain, which has a neurological origin. And rarely HSV2 can cause recurrent outbreaks of the membranes covering the brain, with recurrent aseptic meningitis. Otherwise no neurological worries. ...Read more
HSV infections: The initial infection with a herpes virus can potentially be accompanied by fever and body aches, similar to the flu. Recurrences of hsv usually don't have symptoms other than at the place of the rash. However, body aches can occur with other common conditions like the flu. A blood test can be done in a few weeks to see if you have antibodies to hsv 2. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If my girlfriend has been diagnosed with genital HSV 1 and I have oral HSV 1 how likly is it that i can contract HSV 1 genitally as well?
Any lab; talk to doc: These tests are available through just about any lab in the US. But speak with your doctor first. The chlamydia blood test is useless for diagnosing current infection. Although sometimes used in evaluating female infertility, for current infection you need a urine or vaginal swab test. Also be wary about HSV (herpes) blood testing except with doctor's advice. Confusing results are common. ...Read more
If HSV 1 and 2 tests both negative yet a dermatologist and gynaecologist clinically diagnose both genital and oral herpes, could they be wrong?
Probably not: No tests are perfect however there may be another reason for a false negative result. It takes about 3 to 6 weeks for you to develop antibodies for herpes simplex. I suggest you re-take the test. Almost everyone that ultimately tests positive will do so by 16 weeks. If it is still negative seek another opinion. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If my blood test and culture came back positive for hsv1 on my genital area does that make it the same as having genital2 herpes? can hsv1 turn into hsv2? can i give a new partner herpes simplex 1 without having an outbreak present?
No. No. Yes.: Herpes 1 cannot turn into 2, nor vice versa. A person is not immune to herpes 1 unless he has caught herpes 1, and likewise, he is not immune to herpes 2 unless he has caught herpes 2. That means having herpes 1 does not protect you against herpes 2, and vice versa. That also means having herpes 1 on one part of the body should prevent you from getting new herpes 1 on a different part of the body. ...Read more
My test is positive for herpes 1 and negative for herpes 2 (all igg) but also positive IgM herpes too. Would you say I have type 1 or 2 ?
Hsv1+ and hsv2- for blood antibodies. Had cold sores before. Can I also get genital hsv 1 if exposed? Having swollen glands in groin. Itchy and tingle
No: If a person has antibodies to HSV1 (has immunity), she should not get new HSV1 infections in places that she did not get HSV1 sores in the past. New herpes lesions on the genitals would be presumed HSV2 (if the HSV2 antibodies turned positive on the blood tests after the new genital herpes sores). Life can surprise you sometimes. Maybe HSV1 was in the genitals in the past but wasn't noticeable. ...Read more
Can you tell me can I have genital herpes even without outbreaks and tested negative on hsv1 & hsv2 after 6 mos?
My partner and I have oral HSV 1. What is the probability one could get genital HSV 1 if we refrain from oral contact during an outbreak?
I recently tested for Herpes 1 and Herpes 2 and the results came back as 36.5 for HSV 1 IgG. What should I do next to get this treated and prevent ?
Probably oral herpes: Half of all adults have positive HSV1 tests, so nothing unusual about our test result. You are infected with HSV1. Most such infections are oral, from childhood. Unless you have symptoms of oral herpes (cold sores etc) or genital herpes, there's no way to know which site is infected. Be on the lookout for symptoms and avoid intimate contact (kissing, intercourse) if outbreak may be present. ...Read more
I have genital hsv-1. Via unprotected sex, what are the chances of transmitting HSV a) orally and b) genitally to someone who does not have it?
Must be carefull: First recognize and be honest with partners. To really protect them, use condom. Too shorten your course, need to take antiviral ie Acyclovir or valcyclovir. Most important is to recognize when you are getting a flair and act accordingly. For oral lesions, refrain from any oral sex or kissing. Virus can shed even before you realize you have outbreak.
