Usually, not always: On dry skin, herpes lesions usually start as red bumps, within 1-2 days become blisters, then scabs that heal in 7-10 days. On moist surfaces (e.g. labia minor, vaginal opening) usually ulcers (open sores) rather than blisters. Contact point: It will usually be near the contact point but body fluids with the hsv virus in it can infect your skin in surrounding areas. Most guys will have herpes at the base the penis so women will commonly see out breaks on their labia. If treated within 2-3 days you might reduce symptoms.
