Does giving blood make you anemic?

Does giving blood make you anemic?

Blood donation....: By definition, is a source of blood loss, and its impact depends on your hematocrit (hct) at the start of donation and how much is removed. Assuming you start at a mean hct for age and sex, a unit donation brings you near the lower range of normal, which may cause you to feel fatigue, but is generally tolerable. Of equal import is the fe loss. Spacing donations and fe replete diet are important. ...Read more

I'm not anemic but my iron level won't go above 10.5 which iant high enough to give blood which I would like to do any suggeations?

Anemia: Is 10.5 your hemoglobin level? Either way whether this is your hemoglobin level or your iron (ferritin) level. The level is low and indicates that you are anemic. If you do have iron deficiency and you don't respond to oral iron then you probably should get intravenous iron. Discuss firther with your md. Make sure that you don't have any other reason that can make you anemic besides low iron. ...Read more

Can blood tests for anemia give you wrong results?

Rarely: Detecting anemia (low hemoglobin / hematocrit) is one of the simplest of all lab tests, but clerical / computer errors still happen. If there is doubt whether you are anemic, repeat. Labs required to seek the cause (serum iron, b12, folate, (folic acid) reticulocyte count, many others) are usually reliable; taking an iron pill before the draw can mask elemental iron deficiency. ...Read more

What Foods apart from taking iron pills will give me blood quickly? And how often shld I exercise? I'm anemic due to Fibroids. Clots are like an Egg.

Treat the cause: The cause of your anemia appears to be blood loss due to the fibroids. This leads to iron deficiency which you are trying to correct. But it is playing catch up and may not succeed. So you need to get treatment for the fibroids...ask your gynecologist how to fix up the source of bleeding. No other diet will help you. ...Read more

Tooth infection (8 mths)on tues I go 4 blood test 4 anemia, doctor saw it n give me antibiotic, ask to go dentist on mon, hv panic attack v scare death.

BREATHE: Let yourself relax, if you can. Your body fights infection by increasing white blood cells, which prompted your doctor to prescribe the antibiotic to assist. You'll see the dentist tomorrow (today being sunday), and s/he can deal with the tooth. Take in slow, deep breath to the count of 4, hold for 7 counts, and breathe out through mouth to count of 8. Repeat x 4. Can do this to relax. Be well. ...Read more

I was due on last monday. When I wiped first thing there was a bit of blood on the tissue nothing more. Test negative. Am anemic could this be why?

No: Anemia should not cause you to have a light or no period. You might want to test again in another week. If still negative and no symptoms then you are probably just having an irregular period.
