Can You Give A 1 Year Old Benadryl
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) dose: A safe dose for a 20# 1 year old is 6.25mg, which is a half tsp of the children's liquid. This dose can be given up to 4 times a day (every 6 hours). If needed for more than a couple of days, should consult your doc about other options - is fine short term, but should not be a long term medicine without ok of your pediatrician. ...Read more
Was wondering if it was safe to mix ranitidine and benadryl (diphenhydramine) together and give to my one year old like that?
I gave my one year old half of an ml of children's benadryl (diphenhydramine). I did not realize her dad gave her loratadine a few hours before. Will it hurt her?
My one year old randomly got red bumps all over his arms, gave him benadryl, (diphenhydramine) then they gradually spread to his legs throughout the day.

Big/average/little?: The average 1 yo is about 10 kg in weight and the suggested dose is 1mg/kg. If your kid weighs 22 lb/10 kg/ the 4cc would be ok (12.5mg/5ml liquid). If you don't know how much the weight is or what concentration the med is, check both before using. ...Read more
Medicine for kids: It depends on the weight of the child. Many 1 year olds weigh approximately 20-22 pounds. If that is how much your child weighs, 1 teaspoon (or 5 ml) is the appropriate dosage for tylenol (acetaminophen) or benadryl. Before giving both together you should speak to your pediatrician first. ...Read more
1yr old ate a few pieces of flounder (fish) she broke out in hives on trunk. Is it safe to give her benadryl (diphenhydramine)? No other symptoms
My one year old has a terrible runny nose so bad yesterday she had a bloody nose. She took Zyrtec (cetirizine) at 8:30 this morning can I give her benydryl now?
You can: But remember that antihistamines dry the nasal tissues and can make them more prone to bleeding. A nasal saline or steroid spray would be a better option. ...Read more
Seldom needed: Although used for decades these meds have not been shown to shorten an illness & may increase the thickness of secretions making it harder to cough them out. Many kids felt a little more would help them & self medicated & ended up in emergency rooms. The aap & other groups discourage their use under 6. I have mixed feelings. Saline nasal wash is preferable for younger kids. ...Read more

My 1 yr old daughter has a runny nose. I tried a little Benadryl (diphenhydramine) d 3hrs ago, but doesn't seem to be helping much. What should I do next?
1 yr old can he have amoxicillian tylenol (acetaminophen) and benadryl for ear infection fever and sinuses?
Yes: I don't think the benadryl would provide any benefit but all three can be used in this condition. Antihistamines like benadryl can thicken the middle ear mucus and slow how fast the fluid disappears from that space. Not much difference in the long run if the kid needs it for another problem like allergies. ...Read more
My 1yo has bumps around her joints at times like bug bites, on covered/un areas. They don't bother her & go away w/benadryl. What is this?
Difficult to say...: Rashes are undeniably one of the most difficult diagnoses without some visual input. Bumps near joints that go away with Benadryl (diphenhydramine) does not sound serious, bur certainly seems bothersome. Best idea is to take your 1 y/o to the pediatrician, or at least snap a photo on your phone to ask your pediatrician on the next office visit. Is there a dog or kitten in the house? ...Read more

New bottle is better: You could probably give your child the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) without any adverse side effects. Perhaps the potency has decreased but if the medicine was properly stored, it shouldn't cause any harm. But if the medicine has been expired for two months, it's probably been in your cupboard for over two years. If your child had a bad allergic reaction, you'd feel a lot better knowing the medicine was still good. ...Read more
