I'm on the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and taking a antibiotic (Sulfamethoxazole). Can I get pregnant?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD: No the antibiotics will not decrease the effectiveness of the Mirena (levonorgestrel). But like any contraceptive method, the IUD does have a low baseline rate of pregnancy. So yes you may get pregnant (very low risk) but if you do, it won't be because of the antibiotics. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Can I get pregnant while taking an antibiotic and have the mirana birth control?

Can I get pregnant while taking an antibiotic and have the mirana birth control?

Depends: If the Mirena (levonorgestrel) device is in place and not expelled the risk of pregnancy while on antibiotic is very low. Always check after menstrual period to make certain that the threads still protrude from the cervix/do not to pull on the threads as doing so may displace the intrauterine system. Report any prolonged bleeding/ fever/chills, abdominal pain/cramps to doctor. Practice safe sex use condoms. Take care. ...Read more

Trying to conceive, but husband is taking antibiotics amoxycilin and dicloxacillin 250mg each. Will it affect sperms or pose prblms if I get pregnt?

Probably not...: What I have known and what I have reviewed and read failed to reveal any mention of their possible effect on spermatogenesis - sperm formation. So, I would say both have no concern on sperms. However, in reality, behind what we have known always still hides a lot of what we don't know. If still in doubt, ask his prescribing doctor. ...Read more

Going to be tested for C diff after antibiotic use. If I end up being tx for it, is it okay to try for pregnancy next month? Recurrence risk? Worried!

Going to be tested for C diff after antibiotic use. If I end up being tx for it, is it okay to try for pregnancy next month? Recurrence risk? Worried!

C diff: If your treatment for c diff is successful as determined by follow-up stool culture and you feel healthy, I don't see why you shouldn't attempt to get pregnant. If you have to stay on medications, then you should ask your obgyn for advice on this matter. ...Read more

Can you get pregnant on the mirena (levonorgestrel)?

Can you get pregnant on the mirena (levonorgestrel)?

Pregnancy isn't common but it does happen in rare instances. If you do get pregnant while the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is in place, you have a high chance of having an ectopic pregnancy. Best wishes! ...Read more

Can having rough sex move the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud and can I get pregnant by precum?

Can having rough sex move the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud and can I get pregnant by precum?

Not likely: There is no evidence that "rough sex" can move a Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD (unless someone pulled on your IUD strings). Although you have one of the most effective methods of pregnancy prevention, if you need reassurance, you may check your pregnancy test 12 to 14 days after any "rough" sexual intercourse, to be safe. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex two days before I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD removed can I get pregnant from that?

I had unprotected sex two days before I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD removed can I get pregnant from that?

Pregnant after IUD?: The risks of pregnancy in this situation is extremely small, almost 0. The iud changes the chemistry inside the uterus to make it hostile to pregnancy; these changes take weeks to reverse after removal. The fact that the iud was still in place for 2 days after the unprotected sex eliminated about 99% of all possible pregnancies, and the residual changes left by the iud will get almost all other. ...Read more

My mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD fell out in november when can I get pregnant? And when should I worry that I haven't gotten pregnant about infertility?

I used to have a 28-day cycle. I gained a lot of weight and removed Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD. Can I get pregnant? Ttc 2nd child. Cycle now 24-33days.

Yes: The normal interval between cycles are 21-35dys. Your cycle interval may change from time to time and that's ok as long as it is within a normal range. Weight gain can cause hormonal imbalance, hence preventing ovulation. However, it does not mean you cannot get pregnant. Buy ovulation predictor kits to confirm you are ovulating. You must also eat healthy and exercise prior to conceiving. ...Read more

I am having issues with trying to conceive. I had the mirena (levonorgestrel) put in nov 2007 and had it removed jan 2013 but I am unable to get pregnant?

So sorry: I'm so sorry you're going through this. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) doesn't cause extended infertility, only the depot Provera shot does. So infertility is due to something else. 33% of time it's female, 33% it's male and 33% it's unexplained. If it's been a year, see a doctor and you and your partner can get a work up for infertility. Don't blame yourself... It could be him, or it could be nobody's fault. ...Read more

Is it possible to get pregnant with a mirena (levonorgestrel) coil? Having quite a few symptoms and period is late. Posted a question yesterday but wasn't much help.

Very rare: Mirena (levonorgestrel) iuds are very effective with very low failure rates. You could simply take a home pregnancy test and in minutes you will have your answer. This is what your doctor would do. If positive it's important to be seen immediately due to the risk of tubal pregnancy. ...Read more

When you have the mirena (levonorgestrel) removed after having it for almost almost 2 yrs. How soon do you start ur period again? And how quickly can you get pregnant?

Right Away: No periods when the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud was in place? Once removed, periods can resume within a 4 week cycle. Likewise, there is no lingering hormonal effect on fertility once iud taken out. 8/10 women who have Mirena (levonorgestrel) removed are pregnant within a year. Yet, if you had abnormal cycle before you had an iud, you may have them post iud again. Irregular periods or trouble getting pregnant--seek evaluation. ...Read more

My iud mirena (levonorgestrel) expired February 4 2015 can I get pregnant if im bleeding?

Time to change: The manufacturer of Mirena (levonorgestrel) recommends removal after five years. We do know a "grace period" is built in knowing that some may keep in longer. A few studies have demonstrated that it is effective for longer than five years. Regardless, it should be removed and replaced if you are not ready to get pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant check then check a home pregnancy test. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex twice two days before I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) taken out could I get pregnant from that?

I had unprotected sex twice two days before I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) taken out could I get pregnant from that?

Yes, still possible: Because one of the mechanisms for the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is blocking sperm transport, then the possibility of pregnancy is less likely since you had your Mirena (levonorgestrel) in place for 48 hours. However, there is a small chance that conception occurred and now implantation of the embryo on the uterus is more likely with the Mirena (levonorgestrel) not present in the uterus. ...Read more

Possible, but...: Possible, but unlikely. Anything is possible in this life. A woman of childbearing age who has some nausea (with or without vomiting), some fatigue (feels less energetic), a sharper/stronger sense of smell, mild soreness/swelling of her breasts, and maybe some food aversions and cravings. . . Could be pregnant. If no period comes next month, one can do a urine pregnancy test. ...Read more
