Had a D&C when I was a teenager. I'm an adult and I want children. I have yet to conceive. Did the surgery affect my fertility & chances of being pregnant?

Probably Not

Not likely. The only way it could would be if you had an infection at the time or scar tissue developed in the uterus from the D&C. Although both are possible, they are unlikely.

Infertility

Technically, the definition of infertility under 35 years old is no pregnancy after 12 months of trying. There are a number of things that can play a role in infertility that are too many to list here but a consultation with an OB/Gyn or a fertility specialist would help.

Possibly

There is always a possibility of pregnancy if you are having unprotected intercourse. It is best to ALWAYS use a condom and another form of birth control - that way you're protected from STD's and pregnancy as much as possible (except for not having sex at all). Women have even become pregnant while bleeding (during their period). Our ovaries are not Swiss clocks, keep their own time.....

Yes

It's possible. Sperm typical lives up to 72 hours inside a womans genital tract. There are rare reports of longer, up to 7 days. But 72 hours is fairly common. I hope it turns out however you want it to. Good luck!

Takes time

Sometimes it takes a little longer. Each month the chance of conceiving is ~15%. Keep trying. If not able to conceive in 1 year see a doctor. Wait only 6 months if over 35 years old.

On my fertility days (not in my ovulation day), can I get pregnant?

It happens anytime

You can get pregnant at any time during your cycle. The chance is less right before/during/after period, but still happens. Best chance is around time of ovulation--often midcycle for most women. Chance of pregnancy is higher in late teen years and earlier 20s..then decrease over time. It is very easy and fast to do a home pregnancy test--which is highly accurate. So, check a HPT. Good luck
