Unusual: Herpes simplex is usually seen on the surface of mucous membranes or surrounding tissue. It produces "cold sores" and genital lesions. What I suspect is that you may be seeing herpes zoster on the abdominal wall or back. Usually this will be confined to one side and affect only the area of skin served by one nerve root. This is the virus that causes chickenpox & reactivates to shingles later. ...Read more

Can't tell: Before the 1970's there was a fairly well defined division of hsv 1 above the waist, hsv 2 below. For the most part, it's still true with about 80% hsv 1 being above the waist. The only way to tell is to culture the lesion when it is active. Interestingly, herpes zoster is sometimes difficult to differentiate from herpes simplex if it is not a complete dermatomal (linear) eruption. See your derm. ...Read more

Herpes simplex: Viruses are respiratory viruses that infect the upper respiratory tract and cause bronchitis. Drink water and get a good rest. NSAIDs are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your PCP after 4 days or so. There is a data that suggest that peptic ulcer disease may be associated with HSV-1 and raise the possibility that some peptic ulcers may be caused by this virus. Need more research. ...Read more

Hey? Am having a rash all over my stomache and it's itchy. Little red bumps can it be herpes? Only my stomach
Unlikely: Herpes usually affects a small patch of skin, not a large area (like your entire abdomen). There is usually a raised reddish area with a cluster of tiny fluid-filled blisters. They may itch, but usually there is tenderness over the skin even before the bumps appear and there is more pain or irritation than itching. The bumps open up and become tiny scabs as they heal. See a derm if it persists. ...Read more

Herpes zoster: Shingles is a secondary eruption by the virus which causes chickenpox. It is like a squatter, in that once in your body it does not go away and may recur repeatedly. It usually occurs in the distribution of a single nerve root and does not cross the midline, involving only one side of the body. Your lesions should be seen by a doctor and diagnosed before trying to plan management. ...Read more
My boyfriend for the past year or so gets very bad random headaches, vomits, and stomach ache what could be wrong or could he have herpes not know it?
Migraine?: Reucrrent headache with vomiting usually is migraine. He should see a doctor experienced in diagnosing and treating migraine, ideally a neurologist; effective prevention and treatment are available. Recurrent meningitis due to herpes ("Molleret's meningitis") could do this if he has herpes due to HSV2, but much less likely than migraine, especially if each episode clears up within a day. ...Read more
