Never heard of: Although one can imagine that a tick could have attached to the intestinal lining and thereby transmitting the infection, it is likely that the tick would not have survived the passage in the stomach where there are acid and enzymes. At any rate, I am not aware of this mode of transmission. ...Read more

Can a person have malaria or Lyme for yrs befor gettinh a correct diag is made and from reserching it seems it is poss you can get malaria in the us?
Yes, very rare: It is not unusual to have lyme for years before proper diagnosis. While it is possible to get malaria in the us it is extremely rare, a few cases at most each year, but would be hard to diagnose since most docs would not consider it. Babesia, a tick-transmitted parasite similar to malaria is much more common in the us. Longstanding lyme is difficult to treat - see comment for more:. ...Read more
Bite of infected tic: Lime disease is spread by ticks that have acquired the germ in the past and it stays in their system. If you are in an area where this is common, have symptoms compatible with lyme you should be treated presumptively. May cause your antibody reactions to remain negative. ...Read more

It's also possible it is a totally different illness altogether that he has contracted now. Your doctor can help you sort out possibilities with a good exam, more history and probably more lab work. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sometimes: If lyme is treated early (within days of being infected) it is relatively easy to fully eradicate. The longer it has been present before treating, the more difficult to eliminate. With good treatment most of those with lyme will eventually become symptom-free, but it is possible that many may still have the borrelia bacteria present in the dormant cyst stage. There is no test to prove a full cure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends on the test: There are many tests for lyme- elisa, western blot, ifa, pcr, cultures. Testing can be expensive. If you have limited resources i advise the igg & IgM western blot from igenex- their test is more thorough & sensitive than other labs. It costs about $200. No single test totally proves or disproves if one has lyme- it is a clinical diagnosis, but the right tests are very helpful. ...Read more
