Piercings and pregna: Assuming it is small it should pose no problems. I assume that the tract is mature so that it can be removed for short periods of time without closing over. No it does not: cross the placenta. Only things in the blood stream can cross the placenta. And then not even blood cells cross it. Infection: Infection is the main risk to piercings but keloid formation is also possible. As an OB, I always recommend evaluating the risks and benefits of anything in pregnancy and delaying even things with a small risk until after delivery if possible in order to be as safe as possible. Agree w Dr. Raff: Check for signs of infection: ^'ed redness, warmth, swelling. ^'ed tenderness, pus, red streaking, swollen lymph nodes or fever.
