Infection: Infection is the main risk to piercings but keloid formation is also possible. As an OB, I always recommend evaluating the risks and benefits of anything in pregnancy and delaying even things with a small risk until after delivery if possible in order to be as safe as possible. Piercings and pregna: Assuming it is small it should pose no problems. I assume that the tract is mature so that it can be removed for short periods of time without closing over. At the time of delivery you may want to remove it just to be sure. Any episiotomy would be done on the tissue between the vagina and rectum. Discuss this with your OB but early in the pregnancy there is no issue. ...Read more

If Accidentally swallowed an object like piercing while pregnant does it cross the placenta and harm the baby? What can and can't cross the placenta?

No it does not: cross the placenta. Only things in the blood stream can cross the placenta. And then not even blood cells cross it. So microscopic nutrients, minerals, some medications that are taken pass along with some other things too complicated for this discussion. So a piercing you swallowed does not leave your intestines, does not get in your blood stream and has no chance of passing to your baby, ...Read more
