Can You Get A Gardasil Vaccine When Sick With Cold
The HPV vaccine protects against infection by certain strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer and genital warts. HPV spreads mostly through sexual contact. Almost all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. HPV vaccination is expected to prevent about 70% ...Read more

Maybe, maybe not: Your age is listed as 49 and the target population for this vaccine is 9-26 yrs. Generating protective antibodies to the 4 strains in the vaccine is useful to those approaching the sexually active years, but of limited value to those already exposed.Insurers seldom cover it over 26 and it is an expensive series.I consider it a good vaccine with > 30 years of research behind it. I am about to get my first shot of the gardasil vaccine today. Are there any unusual side effects?

I recently had a colposcopy due to a pap that showed hpv, with a cancer free result. I am in my 50's and wonder if getting an off-label gardasil vaccine is a good idea or a waste of money?
Good thinking yet no: data from human trials. Vaccines work by alerting immune system responses to foreign chemical structures on surface of virus/bacteria, ones not encountered previously. Little data exists on repeated challenging with related structures when person has already had clinically apparent versions of the disease. Larger issues=complexity of immune system (brain control 24/7) responses poorly understood. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
