Yes: It has been shown in extensive research to be safe in this situation. ...Read more
The HPV vaccine protects against infection by certain strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer and genital warts. HPV spreads mostly through sexual contact. Almost all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. HPV vaccination is expected to prevent about 70% ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: Your age is listed as 49 and the target population for this vaccine is 9-26 yrs. Generating protective antibodies to the 4 strains in the vaccine is useful to those approaching the sexually active years, but of limited value to those already exposed. Insurers seldom cover it over 26 and it is an expensive series. I consider it a good vaccine with > 30 years of research behind it. Your call. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am about to get my first shot of the gardasil vaccine today. Are there any unusual side effects?
Rare side effect: There is a rare and unusual side effect that affects a few women - getting lightheaded and dizzy and occassional one that actually faints after the vaccine. Some docs actually want you to wait around in the office for 15 or 20 minutes after the shot to see if that happens. I just advise my patients not to drive or use machinery for an hour after the vaccine. But this is a very rare occurence. ...Read more
Depends: At 34 years of age, you will not qualify for insurance coverage under the recommended guidelines for the vaccine to be given. Current recomendations are for ages between 9-26 so the vaccine will hopefully be given before the patient becomes sexually active. If you personally never intend to become active, then there is no need for the vaccine. ...Read more
Depends: Symptoms may not appear or be recognized after you pick up a strain that may produce warts in the future. The primary target for the vaccine is the early teen or young adult with no prior sexual activity. For those the vaccine will have its highest success. For older sexually active adults it can still help prevent acquiring new strains. ...Read more

My bf has HPV and I have had the gardasil vaccine. Is there any concerns I should have or anything I should know since we are currently ttc?
None known: If you have had the full series of 3 hpv vaccines, you have a reasonable degree of protection (it is possible that you could have been exposed to hpv prior to your vaccines if you got them after you became sexually active). It is very difficult to determine if a male has active hpv infection. At this point, I don't think there are any other precautions you need to take. ...Read more
No: I have given hundreds of Gardasil vaccines to my patients, as well as to my own daughters. I have never seen, in any of my patients, or my own children, any health problems after vaccination. Yes, the shot may hurt, and some patients pass out after the shot, but this is an acute issue, not a long term one. ...Read more
