Diabetes I have been getting tired after I eat and sometimes fall asleep afterward. I am 47 years old and have been under a lot of stress at work and because of a lawsuit. What is the best way to know if I have diabetes? If I have a glass of red wine o
Hello.: Hello. You sound like things are a little miserable right now. The only way to determine if you have diabetes mellitus is to be tested. Your doctor will likely order fasting blood sugar tests and possibly a hemoglobin 1ac level. If you are diabetic, the wine will not treat it. It will also likely not have a significant affect on your stress. The long walks are good. Also try deep breathing exercise levels to center and calm yourself. Breath in deeply and slowly through your nostrils. Raise your arms so that you can fill your lungs more deeply. Hold for five seconds or longer. Then slowly exhale through the mouth. Do this approximately 12 times. It is amazing how restorative and claming some thing so simple can be. I do suggest that instead of three large meals, that you try five smaller meals. Decrease junk carbohydrates, only eat meat in moderation. Try to get at least 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day. Having someone to talk with about the stress can help it from building up. Find ways to enjoy yourself and to laugh every day (it is therapeutic). Take care. ...Read more
