Are raw oysters dangerous to eat, even if you hot sauce on them? What medical conditions would make a person not be allowed to eat raw oysters?
Eat one: If you get sick, you got a bad one. If you buy them, they should have a certificate attached. Otherwise you can't tell until it's too late.
50 yr old. Have eaten raw oysters on the half shell at same restaurant for past 30 years. Now on enbrel (etanercept) for ra. Any need to change my habit?
I would: As tasty as your routine is, the fact is you can live without oysters. You might not be able to say the same with a serious infection, which you are at higher risk for on enbrel (etanercept). No matter how good the source, raw foods contain germs that can cause disease. I would not put myself at that risk. There are not any good formal studies, though, to that affect - just common sense. Your decision...See 2 more doctor answers

Before I knew I was pregnant I ate raw fish, oysters, deli meats, I was never sick, but how and when do I know if baby was affected by listeria?
Should be fine: If you never became ill, then it is unlikely that you were ever infected with listeriosis.
Did I lose my mucus plug? 40 weeks pregnant today, felt like I was leaking something so went to bathroom. When I wiped I found something about an inch long, grayish in color, and dry. Sort of resembles an oyster. Should I call my doctor?
The: The mucus plug is mucus that protects the uterus from bacteria or other infections during pregnancy. The plug is usually passed because the cervix is dilating. It can be stringy, sticky or look a lot like the mucus that could come from your nose. So, when you say it looks like an oyster, I am guessing that you mean the material from the interior of the oyster and not the very hard shell on the outside. It can be clear, opaque or pink tinged. If you are bleeding bright red blood (more than a small amount) that is of more concern. Passing the mucus plug does not give you very exact information about when you will go into labor. A woman could go into labor within hours or within weeks after she passes her plug. Congratulations on the pending arrival of your new baby. Usually your doctor will give you directions about when he or she wants you to go the hospital. I.E., timing of contractions. If you are not contracting and don't have bleeding (ie more than a couple teaspoons of blood) you can probably let your doctor know at the next visit. Usually visits are more frequent once your pregnancy is this far advanced. If you are having symptoms suggestive of labor, or you have a release of fluids, yes call your doctor.
No: Cravings for specific foods are generally an indication of a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Please indicate to your prenatal care provider that you are having these specific cravings. Your provider is likely to recommend further testing to determine if you have a nutritional deficiency that can be corrected.
I am pregnant just found out a week ago today! Last night I went out to eat and ate a peice of raw chicken. I am very scared as to what will happen.?
Most likely OK...: Raw chicken will not necessarily make you sick unless contaminated with the infamous salmonella etc... For the most part, even with contaminated with salmonella, many people don't get sick consuming it because of small number of bugs--stomach acid helps. So, it was last night and you are feeling ok now, you should be fine. If abd pain, n/v start etc, consult doc. Congrats on pregnancy. Good luck.See 1 more doctor answer
I’m currently 10-week pregnant can I eat chocolate Marquise? I’m worried cuz I just found out it maybe unbaked and made from raw eggs
Not a problem: Tiny risk that you might catch something from uncooked eggs like salmonella but no risk to the developing baby as the uterus is well protected.
Avoid: Best to avoid raw fish as it may contain larger amounts of mercury.See 1 more doctor answer
Raw vegetables: There should be no problem eating raw zucchini at any stage of your pregnancy, as long as you can wash it in clean water.
Talk to your OB: You should discuss this with your obstetrician.
