Eat solids, no sips: Weight regain after bypass is usually due to eating foods that go down comfortably. There is a tendency to fall into a pattern o slider foods (soups), sipping with food, and snacks. In essence you are defeating the surgery to lose weight, you need to eat foods that pack the pouch (bread, chicken, etc) and fill you up. 8-9 calories per lb: We have been doing indirect calorimetey on postop bariatric patients. We are finding a total metabolism of about 8-9 calories per pound. So, if you are now 200 lb, them you would ear about 1700 cal per day to maintain your weight. If you wanted to lose wt, then you can eat 1200-1400 cal per day. Eating 400 fewer cal per day would allow you to lose 1 pound in 9 days (3500 cal for 1 lb). ...Read more

Get an endoscopy: A few things can cause upper chest or abdominal pain several years after a bypass. A marginal ulcer can occur at the anastomosis. The symptoms would occur more frequently after meals. Pain is usually the main symptom. A stricture could also occur, which would typically result from an ulcer. Gallstones or ulcer: Nausea after gastric bypass is not normal. Most common is small stones or sludge in gallbladder. Also consider ulcer (must avoid aspirins and tobacco).
