Alcohol is available in many beverages, from beer and wine to the more potent distilled spirits, such as gin, rye, and whiskey. There appear to be at least small health benefits of small amounts of alcohol use (fewer than five drinks per week), especially of red wine Excessive alcohol use can lead to addiction and severe social and physical complications. Very short 1/2 life: Clindamycin is out of your system w/in hours of the last pill and there is no danger from the combo in any case. The very important reason NOT to combine them is the reduction in antibiotic effectiveness. You want the effects to be optimal but after the drug is finished and out of your system that's over. So, drink moderately (always!) and you should be okay. Especially if the original issue's ok. ...Read more
Is it safe to drink alcohol if you are taking clindamycin ? If so does the amount you drink make a difference?
Probably safe butttt: If you are on antibiotics, it is best not to be drinking while on the med and with an infection. Alcohol is a depressant and can affect the white cells via the bone marrow. One drink is not what I am referring to. It's just best to get well and then drink responsibly. ...Read more
I' am taking clindamycin for an infection that is going to be treated my my dentist. Is it okay to drink alcohol?
Can't say: the prescribing doctor (could also be a DO or an RN-NP) or the dispensing pharmacist should be your first advisors in this kind of question, not a stranger online who does not know your history (like whether you have had alcohol abuse), or whether you are on other meds that might severely interact with alcohol (like flagyl/metronidazole). Also, alcohol doesn't help you fight infection or heal. ...Read more

A little bit.: A small amount of alcohol should be okay, if you have normal liver function and are not taking any other medications or using any other recr. substances. Too much alcohol or liver disease or mixing meds may cause all sorts of problems, not just with Primolut-N (norethisterone). Depends on…: The antibiotic: some like Flagyl (metronidazole) can interact with alcohol & cause marked nausea & vomiting. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) alone can cause nausea/vomiting even without alcohol. No drug interactions r listed for bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) amoxicillin, & alcohol, but it's never a good idea to mix alcohol with meds. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) & alcohol both affect the liver. Best to wait until you've finished antibiotics before drinking. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi I was wondering my GGT LEVEL is 64U/L which is very high but I don't drink alcohol or take drugs what causes the elevation? Hep test negative
Depends: Depends on how much you are talking about when you say "drink." if you are on pencillin, it is to treat an infection. Large quantities of alcohol (more than 2-3 drinks on an occasion) interfere with the body's ability to fight infections - white blood cells do not work as well to gobble up germs and make antibodies in the presence of alcohol. If it is a beer or 2, or a glass of win, no problem. ...Read more
