Is it safe to drink alcohol if you are taking clindamycin? If so does the amount you drink make a difference?
Probably safe butttt: If you are on antibiotics, it is best not to be drinking while on the med and with an infection. Alcohol is a depressant and can affect the white cells via the bone marrow. One drink is not what I am referring to. It's just best to get well and then drink responsibly. ...Read more
I' am taking clindamycin for an infection that is going to be treated my my dentist. Is it okay to drink alcohol?
Very short 1/2 life: Clindamycin is out of your system w/in hours of the last pill and there is no danger from the combo in any case. The very important reason NOT to combine them is the reduction in antibiotic effectiveness. You want the effects to be optimal but after the drug is finished and out of your system that's over. So, drink moderately (always!) and you should be okay. Especially if the original issue's ok. ...Read more
I am going to a cinco de mayo party and I am currently on clindamycin for cellulitis. Can I drink alcohol or will it interfere with the medication?
Can't say: The prescribing doctor (could also be a DO or an RN-NP) or the dispensing pharmacist should be your first advisors in this kind of question, not a stranger online who does not know your history (like whether you have had alcohol abuse), or whether you are on other meds that might severely interact with alcohol (like flagyl/metronidazole). Also, alcohol doesn't help you fight infection or heal. ...Read more

Don't know, but...: Since there are no double-blind, randomized control trials to answer this question, can't tell you for sure. However, the question that I have is - since antibiotics are usually given only for a few days, if you don't feel like you can safely refrain from drinking alcohol for even that period, might you be struggling with an alcohol problem. Please discuss this with your doctor asap. ...Read more
Not a good idea: Nyquil itself contains about 20% alcohol, but more importantly excessive alcohol is bad for the immune system, and itself makes many cold symptoms (particularly nasal stuffiness) worse. Adding additional alcohol to nyquil increases the chance of intoxication, which aside from being illegal at your age, is dangerous, particularly behind the wheel of a car or anything similar. ...Read more
Alcohol & antibiotic: If you are on antibiotics for an infection, that means your body needs help. Alcohol is actually a toxin- although we are not used to thinking of it that way. So I don't think it's a good idea really to be drinking when on antibiotics for something. That said, there aren't any major drug interactions to worry about. Best to take it easy on yourself. ...Read more
