you do not get flu: First of all you do not get flu fromn flu vaccine as it is a killed virus vaccine and can not cause flu and secondly flu vaccine is effective in preventing the major strain of flu that is expected to come in us in winter and cdc has been right about their prediction most of the time if you get a little reaction from the ingedients in flu vaccine it will not be flu and will not last more than 2to3. ...Read more

Can happen!: It is uncommon, but painful joints and arthritis sx can occur after a flu shot. Bear with it, because it is short lived. Low dose Prednisone (2.5-5mg) and nsaids should really improve your sx. Please do not less this "bad" experience keep you from getting vaccinated in the future. ...Read more

Aprox 80% effective: First the flu shot takes 3 weeks to build full immunity so next year take it late october this way when the season starts ( nov in the ne) you are ready. Influenza affects about 20% of the population an the vaccine gives about 80% immunity if correctly paired to the current strain. In your case you did get flu but had some immunity since it was mild.
