Can You Break A Vein By Hitting Your Hand Hard
I've superfic. Thromboph. In my hand following an IV. Hard vein, sensitivity. Can blood clots break loose and travel to lungs=death? When shall I worry
Treat the thromboph: Anytime the veins are inflamed, there is a potential for thrombosis and thrombi can break off and travel to the right side of the heart and from there to the lung. However, the balancing system of thrombolysis can dissolve the thrombus and anticoagulant drugs can prevent it from forming in the first place. Not every thromboembolus leads to death, especially if you have healthy lungs. ...Read more

I have two lumps on back of hand looks like they are in the veins they move about when you touch them and are hard?
My Right Hand Top Vein Is Hurting like crazy Everytime I try to move my hand up and down it hurts, I can't remember if hit myself but what can it be?
In The Right Vein: Sometimes veins get inflamed usually, as you guessed, by minor trauma. They can then get a clot in them and that hurts too for a while. Those small superficial veins usually heal within a few weeks but may leave a lump for a longer time. A warm cloth intermittently and Motrin will help. But if it extends and/or the skin gets involved get it checked out. ...Read more

Is it possible to pinch a vein shut? The vein in my thumb was smashed. It is now bright blue, hard an raised. It is making my whole hand tingle.
Nah. It ain't so Joe: You caused a nice big BRUISE by whacking the thumb but it's not a vein or anything like that...it's the swelling and accumulation of fluids including blood. If it's causing tingling in the hand then, you should have it looked at right away. It may need decompression otherwise, you could have nerve damage that's permanent from the accumulated pressure that's not being released. Ice down a lot. ...Read more

I had a nurse who pushed phenergan (promethazine) in my hand and it burned so bad now my hand still feels bruised and my vein is hard. How long will this last?
Too long. Get seen!: One of phenergan's black box warnings is severe tissue injury to injected areas due to chemical irritation and tissue damage which causes burning, pain, thrombophlebitis (clots in little veins) and tissue death in the local area injected. If you still have a hard vein and the burning pain is continuing, you should have it checked out by a physician. Some cases need minor surgery to treat. ...Read more

Barely hit my hand/fingers & the vein/vessel burst, stings, hurts & then turns purple. I'm in my 30's & had this since a child. Why? What causes it?
Vein bursting: If you are experiencing increasing amounts of bruising, there are a few concerns. One would be if your blood is unusually thin. This can be because of low platelets (the clotting cell of your blood) or a decrease in the amounts of clotting factors. You should discuss this with your doctor as simple blood tests can diagnosis this. There can also be structural problems with the veins causing this. ...Read more

X-rays can identify bone structure, being useful in the detection of pathology of the skeletal system as well as for detecting some disease processes in soft tissue. Traditional plain x-rays are less useful in the imaging of soft tissues such as the brain or muscle, but sometimes if calcification is present you may be able to see them.

Whoa!: It sounds like you whacked a splinter of metal into your skin! If it is holding a pinhole in the skin large enough to keep bleeding, that is highly irregular! Make your way to your Family Doc for an evaluation. He may need to take an x-ray or refer you to a surgeon to figure out location and an approach to bringing this foreign-body-removal issue to a conclusion! ...Read more

I hit my wrist earlier, and it seems the vein has swollen. The area around it is red, and my palm is tingling. Should I be concerned?
Not to worry:
You have a "contusion" or "bruising" and hit the nerve as well as the veins in your wrist. ICE is the best INITIAL treatment followed by HEAT after the first 48 hours!
Your symptoms should resolve within 7 days If still symptomatic after a week check it out with your PCP (Primary Care Provider)

Doctor can check: If a person breaks blood vessels more easily than other people do, there may be a problem. A primary care doctor can evaluate, to see if the patient's blood vessels are more fragile than normal, and to check for slow blood clotting (which would let more blood leak from broken vessels, forming visible blood spots and bruises). ...Read more

Be checked for an arterial lesion or obstruction.
What was cause for dvt?
If a thoracic outlet was the cause, then that area also needs evaluation.
If coagulopathy was involved that needs clarification.
