Can You Be Constipated And Still Poop
My breastfed 6 mth old is now on solids and poops several times a day. Although they are still soft, they are dry and small; is she constipated?
Unlikely: If she is having several bowel movements a day and is still eating and acting normally it is doubtful that she is constipated. If she is irritable, crying incessantly, not feeding regularly, sleeping excessively or develops fever have her see a pediatrician asap. Otherwise just watch and wait. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
If i took Ex-Lax after being constipated, is it normal to still feel like i "have to go" even after i just took a huge poop?
Caused by ex-lax: Medications like ex-lax work. The problem is they can work too well. That is why you are pooping even when empty. As long as the medication is in your body you will get the signal to poop. It will wear off. In the future try a mild medication like senna and colace. Or just drink plenty of water and walk a lot. Hope this helps. ...Read more

My 8 mo old is on crystalose for constipationshe was constipated last night so we did suppository. She's still crying hrs after pooping. What's wrong?
Suppository cramping: Most suppositories contain stimulant medications that cause the bowel to contract and cramp. This effect doesn't end just because the child poops, and the cramping can go on for hours. This is likely what you are dealing with. That's why suppositories should really only be a very last resort. ...Read more

Everything?: If you're not going regularly, you need more than Raisin Bran. Add psyllium husks (1 or 2 tablespoons) every day, plus lots of water. Magnesium to bowel tolerance (you can't OD on magnesium because it will give you diarrhea, stomach upset). Find a dose that works. Stimulants like prunes also will help. Have you checked your thyroid. Constipation is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. ...Read more

Toddler has black specks in poop. Sometimes constipated. Rest of stool brown. Hemocult neg. Few months ago. Could it be blood still? Eats normally.
Would watch and wait: If hemocult is neg and he is doing well, obviously you have checked with your doctor too. It is likely some undigested food particles and i would watch for now. ...Read more

No: Viral illness will cause diarrhea, but will not necessarily fix your constipation problem. You need to increase your oral fluids and fiber to fix the constipation. Generally, viral gastroenteritis is self limited, but you need to keep hydrated. Dehydration is the usual reason why you might need to be hospitalized. ...Read more
