Yes: Testosterone (from the testicles) and gnrh (from the hypothalamus) are connected by a feedback mechanism much like the thermostat in one's house. When testosterone levels rise for whatever reason, the hypothalamus decreases its release of gnrh to help bring t back to normal levels and vice versa. ...Read more

Sugar decreases testosterone so if I change my diet where there is hardly any sugar, testosterone will increase, but how long will it take to increase?
Sugar, not alone!: Sugar intake is strongly associated with obesity. Fat cells through cyclic aromatase turn testosterone to estrogen. If you are lean and not a diabetic, this would not be a cause, and my true medical skills are showing, because I am a "preacher for low carb diets." you need a metabolism, endocrinology, urology evaluation! ...Read more
It doesn't: Spironolactone is a diuretic that also happens to block testosterone receptors in hair follicles. Since many women with P COS experience some degree of hirsutism as a result of the elevated testosterone common with PCOS the Spironolactone is prescribed to block the receptors to prevent those hair changes. The testosterone production can be decreased by suppressing the ovaries with OCP's. ...Read more
No: Nolvadex, a brand of tamoxifen, is a selective estrogen receptor modulator. As such, there are some small studies that suggest that it can actually increase testosterone production in med. I'm on Paxil (paroxetine) since 2 years. Does it decrease my testosterone? For sure? Was curious. As I workout. Can I stop Paxil (paroxetine) from doing this? Thanks
Here are some…: Over the past decade, it has been increasingly knowing that the drugs exerting their effect to central nervous system such as opiate agents has been confirmed having side effects to lower testosterone due to its effect onto hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Likewise, Paxil (paroxetine) may have similar effect over time to reflect the fact that behind what we know may still hide lots of what we don't know. ...Read more
Talk to your doc!: Are your 32yo or 51yo? How low is low? What made you check in first place? If you're within normal limits, then most likely, normal FSH & LH mean that your body doesn't want any more. But if your T is truly low (below lower limit of normal), your doc can check for hemochromatosis & for pituitary adenoma, most commonly prolactinoma. In the meantime, healthy nutrition & regular exercise can help. ...Read more
Not likely to change: There is a use it or lose it issue that seems to happen, if you totally abstain from sexual activity, you may lose interest, but that is not necessarily the same as lowering your testosterone. Since spironolactone is a testosterone blocker, would that be bad for the body or decreases testosterone level.
Does not lower level: Spironolactone is not a "testosterone" blocker per say. It designed to block aldosterone receptors from being activated. It is not perfect and does have some anti-masculine side effects (gynecomastia). If a doctor prescribed your medication for blood pressure control, prior heart attack, heart failure, or liver disease it is more likely to make you live longer and better than not. ...Read more
