Paronychia: It is very much unlikely to get a herpes infection a second time. But, if this is where you have herpes this is where you were infected. Another common problem with a finger is called a paronychia. ...Read more

How long does HSV (1) survive on a finger. For example One touches an oral blister that has not yet opened then accidentally touched another area.

It doesn't matter...: ...how long the virus can survive. In HSV infection present for more than a few months, autoinoculation (self transmission to a new part of the body) almost never occurs, except rarely to an eye. The immune system prevents it. Use common sense hygiene (hand washing, alchohol gel) but no need to be compulsive about it or worry about transmitting oral herpes to, say, the genital area. ...Read more

No symptoms?: You are at some risk, even if you have had no symptoms. Of course you may already carry the virus. Many people do. Many people have it with no symptoms. Have you been tested in the past? ...Read more

How long is hsv-1 (oral herpes) transferable from your finger after you touched a cold sore?

How long is hsv-1 (oral herpes) transferable from your finger after you touched a cold sore?

Misinformed?: First having a sore does not in any way represent contagiousness. That has now been fully proven to have been wrong in science. Viral shedding happens independently of sores. Second one does not transfer or transmit herpes by touching a cold sore. ...Read more

Could you contract HSV if someone licked their fingers then fingered you? No sign of cold sore noticed on mouth, and how fast would you get symptoms?

Extremely unlikely: In theory, such indirect exposure could result in transmission. But this happens very rarely, if ever. In busy STD clinics, everyone with genital herpes has had unprotected intercourse (vaginal, anal, or oral); we never see patients whose only exposure was hand-genital contact. Don't worry about it. ...Read more

Can I acquire HSV 1 and 2 If the sweat or saliva of infected person came into my finger? Getting PCR HSV 1 and 2 blood test after week is conclusive?

No risk: No, you will not catch HSV1 or 2 by such contact, only by direct contact through sex or kissing. Don't waste your money on testing unless you have actual herpes blsiters/sores, if your doctor agrees. Don't get yourself tested without professional advice. ...Read more

Have HSV 2 but looks like an outbreak on knee. Is this possible? I rarely ever get genital outbreak but get them on my fingers and now looks like knee

Unlikely: Once a person has contracted HSV it is not likely that they will develop lesions in new sites that were not involved in the primary exposure. Your body develops antibodies that will not allow the virus to infect other sites. There are two strains of HSV and it is possible to contract the second strain at some point. To know for sure would require some lab testing at least. ...Read more

How long does the herpes simplex virus (1) last on a finger. -if one touched a present oral blister that hasn't yet opened, then touched another area?

For life.: It's not as bad as it sounds. The first episode is the worst. Recurrences become less and less symptomatic, and less frequent until finally it stops. There is usually an interval of months, or years between attacks.
Are you a health care worker?
It can defiinitely be transmitted to other areas but for some reason isn't commonly. Good Idea to cover it while you have it with a band aid. ...Read more

Is it possible that hsv 2 can be on my lip? Could I get it on my vagina by touching the sore then touching myself? How long does it live onmy fingers

Is it possible that hsv 2 can be on my lip? Could I get it on my vagina by touching the sore then touching myself? How long does it live onmy fingers

Herpes oral, genital: If you have oral herpes, probably it is HSV1, not HSV2. Whichever type you have, auto-inoculation (transfer of infection to a new body area) is very rare except during the initial HSV infection. Even then it is uncommon. Don't worry how long the virus may "live on your fingers"; it doesn't matter. You probably could not transmit it to your genital area even if you tried. No worries! ...Read more

I put abreva on my oral herpes, and 30 min later I touched my eyelid with same finger. Is it possible my eye (lid) is effected with hsv-1?

Spreading HSV 1: Yes, it is possible. You must be very careful after touching any active herpetic lesions. It is not uncommon these days to see HSV 1 or 2 in places we used to not see them. If you start having any pain or redness or visual changes in that eye I would be checked by an eye doctor. ...Read more

Can I get hsv 2 if I endured chickenpox as a child? Are the symptoms easier? Less likely to transmit?

Can I get hsv 2 if I endured chickenpox as a child? Are the symptoms easier? Less likely to transmit?

Entirely different: The only thing common between herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2) and the chickenpox virus, varicella zoster virus (VZV), is the name herpes. After childhood chickenpox, everyone remains susceptible to HSV2 if exposed. Transmission risk of HSV2 is no different in people with or without past chickenpox. ...Read more

What are the chances to transmit hsv-2 to the oral area by having oral sex if the person who has it is on valacyclovir daily?

Lesions present?: If the lesions of the herpes virus are visually present, they can still transmit the virus in spite of the rx's presence. We no longer classify hsv as type I or ii for just this reason that either variety can appear in any location with oral sex. ...Read more

Is it true that homosexuals are more likely to transmit diseases like hepatitis, HSV and hiv-2?

Is it true that homosexuals are more likely to transmit diseases like hepatitis, HSV and hiv-2?

It's what you do: It's not a question of whether they're more likely to transmit, but whether they're more likely to be infected. Hiv-2 is seen in west africans, not gay men. Hepatitis b is more common in gay men, hepatitis c in drug users. Hsv is widespread throughout the population. Anal sex transmits HIV easily whether done by gay people or straight people. Risk depends not on who you are, but on what you do. ...Read more

Don't have HSV 2, but curious how u can transmit the virus to baby during delivery if there isn't an active outbreak?

Virus is invisible: The virus is invisible to our eyes, but can be in the affected areas of the body in between outbreaks. If there are a lot of viruses causing tissue damage, then the patient feels the symptoms and sees the blisters and rash. If there are few viruses, and they are not causing symptoms, the patient doesn't know the viruses are there. ...Read more
