Can Wearing Contacts Stop Your Eyes From Getting Watery When Chopping Onions
I've been wearing contacts for 3 years, and since i can remember my eyes always get red when i wear them. what can i do to stop the redness?
Change brands: Different brands work better for dry/sensitive eyes. Check back in with your optometrist and see which brands you find most comfortable. Switch to Dailies instead of extended wear lenses. Use artificial tears while wearing the lenses, don't use OTC redness relievers. Shorten wear duration, don't sleep, shower, or swim in them. Good luck. ...Read more
How irritating!: Red eyes in this case mean one thing - your eyes are irritated. Now the trick is to find out why. It could be your lens solution, the wrong type of contact (you may need the more "breathable ones", the wrong fit, leaving them in to long, a crappy environment (to dry, smoky, etc..). I would talk to my ophthalmologist to make sure fit and style are right for you, then try gradually changing things. ...Read more

It depends: It depends. If you are wearing soft contact lenses, generally 2 weeks is adequate. For toric contacts or gas permeable contacts, 3 or more weeks may be required. If you wore the old pmma contacts for decades, it could take longer. The best rule of thumb is to have the shape of the eye tested (topography) and have that repeated when out of contacts to prove that the shape is stable and not shifting. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
