Tonight is the superbowl and id like to havea few beers. Have a UTI and not on meds. Doctor appt on tues. Can I drink? If so can I flush with water after?

Alcohol will not: Help or worsen your uti, but left untreated (if in fact your self-diagnosis is correct) you might really be sick by tuesday. Staying hydrated is good if you have symptoms of uti, but don't overdo it or you decrease your body's ability to fight the infection. "flushing" with water is not going to do anything but rehydrate you, and that's ok, but shouldn't be considered enabling your alcohol use! ...Read more

Is beer an acceptable alternative to water in cases of hyponatremia?

No: Beer although high in sodium will not cause your body sodium to increase to normal levels assuming you are well below the 135 meq/l as the low end of normal. I would say that your sodium loss is more renal. Are you on BP meds?
You need to find out the cause of the low sodium and this may require more testing. Do not wait too long though. ...Read more

Ok: I'm not sure of the question but in general you should not mix alcohol with sleeping meds but one beer should not hurt you with the zolidem. You should also know that alcohol disrupts sleep so if you are having trouble it is a good idea to avoid alcohol. ...Read more

Can drinking a cup of beer with 2/3 of its 356 cm^3 volume filled with water once/week stunt your height growth? Started drinking at 7 or 8 years old

Bad idea: Bad idea to be drinking alcoholic beverages starting at 7-8. I am not sure however that this may be solely the reason for one's stunted growth if that is the case. So many other factors such as genetics, malnutrition, etc ...Read more

35 yr old male. I really only drink water (probably 1 gsllon or more a day) and lite beer (4-5 a day) no cafeene! Is this little alcohol bad for health?

Alcohol: Consistently drinking 4-5 beers a day is quite a lot. It indicates you're using this habitually, and could be at least psychologically dependent on the alcohol. With this amount, you could also have some physical withdrawal effects if stopping as well. You might want to see your physician for a general health evaluation, and let him/her know you're concerned about your beer intake (if you are). ...Read more

61 yrs old, urinating a lot more than usual no matter what I drink water, beer, wine. Possible causes?

Needs testing: Beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages, as well as caffeinated sodas, actually cause you to urinate out more fluid than you took in, because both alcohol and caffeine have diuretic effects. The most common reason for increased urination is diabetes, but there are other causes as well. You need to see your physician for a check-up, together with a urinalysis-and maybe further testing if needed. ...Read more
