Generally, : Generally, if a child has already had the chicken pox, then he does not need the varicella vaccine. Usually, having the disease once is sufficient for immunity against future infections. However, the school may be suggesting vaccination after lost records because it won't hurt him to receive an extra vaccination. The center for disease control recommends that if the immunization status of a child is unknown, the safest thing is to vaccinate them since extra vaccinations will not cause any harm.
