Can too much vitamin d give you hot flashes and night sweats?

No: Vitamin d regulates your body's absorption of calcium, so too much vitamin d will lead to hypercalcemia or too much calcium in your blood. Hypercalcemia typically manifests as constipation, nausea, polyuria (excess urination), and in severe/chronic cases, renal problems and cardiovascular issues. None of these issues would manifest as hot flashes or night sweats. ...Read more

Sweating At Night (Definition)

Night sweats may be a sign of an overactive thyroid, vitamin d deficiency, or a more serious problem like hodgkin's disease. The most common cause is probably just a heavy mattress and a warm room. The result is the same: waking up overheated and sweaty. Some people have a problem with sweating not just at night. ...Read more

Calories: Ensure and boost are good sources of extra calories, but ou must also eat plenty of good quality food on a balanced diet. Sounds like you're already seeing a doctor about your problem and they have sent lab tests. Green leafy vegetables have lots of iron. Ask your doctor for advice, or consult with dietician. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Can mental health drugs give you hot flashes and night sweats?

Yes: Some antidepressants are among the most common causes of night sweats. However, others are actually commonly used to treat hot flashes, so those may be caused by a different drug or mechanism. I would talk to your doctor as it depends on what medications you are taking. Night sweats can also be a symptom of serious diseases, so you should see your doctor. ...Read more

I had a d&c and tubal a year ago and now have hot flashes and night sweats is this normal at 40?

I had a d&c and tubal a year ago and now have hot flashes and night sweats is this normal at 40?

Changes: I am one that believes that tubals interrupt some of the blood supply to each ovary which can change ovarian function. These symptoms may be unrelated however, since many women in their late 30s and 40s develop menopausal symptoms prior to the actual onset of menopause, which is described as perimenopause or ovarian dysfunction. It is treatable with the right physician. ...Read more

Big headaches, hot flashes, and night sweats? Could it be the flu?

Not typical: Need more detailed description of symptoms. Where are the headaches, are they constant, how severe, what relieves them, etc. Are you having fever, when and how much; sore throat, muscle aches, gastrointestinal changes (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea). To what have you been exposed (sexually or otherwise). This does not necessarily sound like influenza, but need more info. See doctor. ...Read more

Hormonal changes: If your weight loss was rapid then you are likely decreasing your amount of circulating Estrogen. Fat cells secrete Estrogen. Losing the fat decreases the Estrogen. Consider getting your thyroid and blood sugar checked too. Congrats on the weight loss. Keep up the good work. ...Read more

17 yrs old. Painful ovarian cysts every month even on bc pills. Hot flashes and night sweats every day. Tried other bc pills too. Advice?

Go see your doctor: You didn't mention how you're taking your birth control pills or which brand you're taking but presumably you're having monthly periods. So ask your doctor about skipping placebo pills and immediately starting next month's pills in order to prevent menses. Some brands are sold w/o sugar pills. Or you may need higher dose to prevent ovulation. Bottom line, talk to your doctor. ...Read more

I just started Estradoil patch and progesteron pill yesterday. How long before i now if my hot flashes and night sweats subside?

Depends on dose: B"sd steady state is reached within a number of hours. Biologic effects may take longer ~ 4 weeks. Standard practise is to start with low dose and increase if necessary. For highly symptomatic women have initiated higher dose estradiol for rapid relief and then usually can taper to lower maintenance dose. Glad to discuss details if desired. ...Read more

Having : Having hot flashes and night sweats for 7 years must be miserable. Please become established with a good family practice or internal medicine doctor in your area. You should have a medical workup. There are treatments that may help you, but it is important to closely establish with a good primary care doctor. I am glad that you had hormone testing, but you may need thyroid studies, blood glucose testing, and other types of testing. If it does end up being anxiety, there are treatments as well as medications that may help. ...Read more

I am on lo loestrin fe for premenopause but still experience hot flashes and night sweats. How long does it take for lo loestrin fe to help?

Menopause management: w/ Loestrin should reduce symptoms within the first pack. Birth control pills are dosed higher than most menopausal HRT so symptom relief should be quick. If not, then your symptoms may not be coming from an estrogen/progesterone imbalance. In my practice, I use sensitive salivary hormone testing to discover what is missing and replace only that. That seems to work best for my patients. ...Read more
