Can Too Much Caffeine Make Your Throat Close
Significantly reduced my caffeine intake recently and now my allergies, throat tightening etc., seem somewhat worse. Correlation or imagination?
No.: Caffeine has been shown to help with bronchodilation (relaxation of the small tubes in your lungs) which helps with air movement. Asthmatics have noted slight symptomatic benefit after ingesting caffeine. This may help your "allergies" depending on what those symptoms may be. Your dose of caffeine would also have to be taken into consideration. Read more

My kids have swollen glans or aka sore throat. Do I use? They hate haggling with salt and water. And I have no caffeine free tea. What do I do?
Sore throat: If gargling with warm salt water is a problem, perhaps they will sip beef or chicken bouillon, the saltiness of which is soothing to a sore throat. Honey is also soothing (caution in very young whose immune system may not yet be fully developed). Chicken soup provides warmth, saltiness, nutrition from chicken protein, decongestion. If sore throat worsens or high fever, see fp for eval & tx. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I've had mild to extreme shoulder blade/neck/shoulder pain for four years, pain increased with caffeine beverages, what could this be?
Possible Migraine: It's possible that this may be a migraine variant. It's possible to see pain in the neck and shoulder area with some folks. Another possibility is a pinched nerve but that wouldn't explain the caffeine connection. Our bodies never read the textbooks, so anything is possible. Have it checked out. Read more

I'm taking 2 mg of diazepam (3 per day) for a stiff neck. Will caffeine reduce the effect of the relaxant? I have no anxiety, stress, or sleep issues.
Not likely: The sedation effects of diazepam occurs due to effects of this molecule on specific receptors within the brain. Caffeine will likely not affect this to any significant degree. The key is to limit the use of this medication to the least dosage for the shortest period of use. If have been using diazepam for more than a few weeks, then will need to wean off the medication slowly. Read more

Go to hospital now: 2, 340mg of caffeine? Over 4 days ago? Clearly it's not fatal (yet) in your case. But the fact that you feel like someone is squeezing your neck means that you need to get seen now, not tomorrow, not monday, but now. Good luck! And don't press your luck again like this.
