Specialist: Consider seeing a colorectal surgeon if you haven't already. There are a host of issues and it requires a long discussion of questions and a thorough exam to isolate the source. For now, use calmoseptine ointment 2-3 times a day to protect the skin until a definitive treatment plan is decided upon. ...Read more

Had colonscopy in 2011, showed hemorrhoids. Years later on occasion I get speck of bright red jelly like substance on toilet paper or on stool. Blood?
Yes: Hemorrhoids never go away on their own. They just lie dormant until something irritates them (hard stool or difficulty pushing stool out) and then they can bleed a bit. Hemorrhoids are just like varicose veins (swollen and bleed when irritated). See your doc for an evaluation if bleeding becomes more severe. ...Read more

When I wipe after a bowel movement the toilet paper is full of blood. Could this be an intestinal problem or hemorrhoids? I'm a 26 yr old female.
I had bright red blood on my toilet paper and in the toilet after a bowel movement. I have had problems with hemorrhoids. Is it hemorrhoids?

19 years old. Change in bowel habits but go everyday. Sometimes blood on toilet paper from known hemorrhoids. Should I be screened for colon cancer?
Not at this time: The incidence of colorectal cancer is very low under the age of 40, and stats for 19-39 years of age for women are 1/1400 and increase dramatically between age 40-50 to 1/140. Unless you have a strong family history of colorectal cancer, you can relax about that diagnosis for now. If you have not been feeling well, experience BM urgency, you should be checked for colitis. ...Read more
