Can TMJ cause numbness in the cheeks & jaw and then in the mouth? I have pain behind rt ear sometimes the pain is really bad when I lay down.
R/O TMJ: YES: TMJ can be very difficult to treat and overlap several specialists. I hav had the best results with ENT and oral surgery.. It can start with a poor bite due to genetics/after trauma/Bruxism secondary to stress. A good nite guard is essential. Topical Voltaren (diclofenac) gel and a low dose muscle relaxant (skelaxin/FLEXERIL) /BOTOX/LIDOCAINE injections can help. Prednisone with quick taper may help.
Can tmj/dental cause tingling numbness in chin, jaw and lips. I have polyneuropathy. Wasn't sure if its that or the dental. I do have dental issues.
Doubtful: Tingling and numbness are not typical symptoms of tmd. I would recommend that you see a dentist to address all your dental issues and evaluate your tmjoints, etc. I am assuming that you are under the care of a physician for the polyneuropathy who can address the medical issues.See 3 more doctor answers

Need a team approach: Since there are multiple symptoms of longstanding duration that previous treatments have not relieved so far, consider visiting the TMJ pain management clinic of a major hospital center, preferably affiliated with a dental school. It requires a team approach to diagnose and treat. Imaging of the joint area is needed and a neurologist should be consulted in addition to a head and neck specialist.See 5 more doctor answers

Dental shot lower rear of jaw 9 days ago. When numb wore off, all of bottom teeth on same side are very sensitive&burning pains on tmj/jaw/back of head?
Advil (ibuprofen): When we give a lower injection, we go through 2 muscles that can become sore, especially if there is movement in the lower jaw during the injection. This is called trismus. Holding your mouth open for a long time is unnatural and can cause pain. I suggest over the counter pain meds. If no relief see your dentist next week.See 3 more doctor answers

Secondary TMJ.: The facial nerve (Cranial nerve VII) courses thru the temporomandibular junction (TMJ). Inflammation or pressure in that region can disrupt the nerve. Evoked potentials (EMG/NCS) of the facial nerve may help diagnosis.

Displaced disk: The internal anatomy of the TMJ has a soft tissue disk that prevents bone on bone function. If this is displaced it can get in the way and prevent normal jaw function limiting opening and giving the sensation of a locked jaw.See 6 more doctor answers
Possibly: Possibly TMJ pain or disfunction from an acquired, yet unnatural forward position for your TMJ to be positioned in. By keeping your jaw forward, you also adversely affect the facial musculature. Tmj problems may not be present as you are only 22 years old, but as you get older, you have less lubrication in your joints and your adaptive ability is greatly reduced ; then problems become evident.See 5 more doctor answers
